Meghan Markle paid a moving tribute to the late Princess Diana on her tour of Nigeria with Prince Harry, where the couple put on a charming display.

The Duchess of Sussex was seen wearing a stunning gold necklace with a large diamond cross that once belonged to her late mother-in-law, Diana. The necklace is believed to have recently been gifted to Meghan by Harry, 39.

Meghan, 42, wore the necklace during a reception for military families in the Nigerian capital of Abuja on Saturday, May 11. She looked sensational in a simple strapless white dress, which let the cross necklace do all the talking as her dark hair was pulled back into an elegant up-do.

The Duchess also appeared to make another nod to Princess Diana during the tour as she wore a gold collar necklace on Friday, 10 May, that closely resembled one worn by Diana in 1990.

Meghan has often paid tribute to her late mother-in-law through her jewellery over the years since meeting and marrying Prince Harry, with him gifting her the precious items including butterfly earrings, an aquamarine cocktail ring, a diamond bracelet and a gold bracelet.

Harry even incorporated two diamonds from Diana's collection into the engagement ring he had made for Meghan for when he proposed in 2017. The pair went on to marry in 2018, and at their lavish wedding reception at Frogmore House, Meghan wore Diana's aquamarine ring.

On Friday, May 10, the Duchess of Sussex stepped out in a stunning blush silk maxi dress with a high neck and cut-out back from Heidi Merrick, marking her second outfit from the California label in recent weeks. Interestingly, the ensemble is named the Windsor gown.

The House of Windsor is the modern name of the British Royal family, adopted in 1917 by King George V to replace the historic name of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha amid anti-German sentiments in the UK following World War I.

As explained on the royal.uk website, Windsor remains "the family name of the current Royal Family," although those close to the direct line of succession don't use it as their surname.

When Prince Harry and Meghan's children, Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, two, were born, their full names were announced as Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor and Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.

The name Mountbatten comes from Prince Philip's side of the family, and the hyphenated last name has been used for descendants of Queen Elizabeth since 1960.
