Durbanites in for a treat with a South African musical rendition of The Emperor’s New Clothes

This colourful and highly entertaining musical will delight children and adults alike.

The South African premiere of The Emperor’s New Clothes will feature at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre during the upcoming school holidays from June 15 to July 7.

The musical will be  KickstArt’s second SA premiere in the first six months of this year.

Directed by Steven Stead, with magical designs by Greg King, musical direction by Roland Perold and fresh new orchestrations by Jaco Griessel, the staging of this Broadway musical will feature Daniel Anderson as Emperor Marcus and Roland Perold as The Swindler. Other cast members bringing this colourful and highly entertaining musical to life will be Marion Loudon, Lyle Buxton, Mthokozisi Zulu, Keryn Scott, Amahle Tembe and Roshanda Lewis.

The Emperor’s New Clothes is a version of the famous Hans Christian Anderson fairytale by Broadway stalwarts Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty.

The play is described by Broadway Theatre International as a musical that follows ”a fourteen-year-old Emperor Marcus the Third who is nervous to take the throne”.

Deciding that he can only gain confidence by dressing in the finest attire, Marcus commands his Royal clothes maker to fashion him in the ‘most royal wardrobe’.
