Optimal Order to Play Assassin‘s Creed Valhalla Content in 2024

As a hardcore Assassin’s Creed gamer who has sunk over 200 hours into Valhalla, I strongly recommend playing through content in the following order for most epic and cohesive experience:

  1. Main Story Quests up until building the Seer’s hut
  2. All Valka Missions
  3. 10 Animus Anomalies
  4. Complete Main Story Arcs
  5. Wrath of the Druids DLC
  6. Dawn of Ragnarök Expansion
  7. River Raids (available early on)

Backstory Enriches the Experience

AC Valhalla recreates 9th century England during the height of Viking expansion beautifully. But what truly hooks me is how the game intricately weaves Norse mythology into the historical setting through prophetic visions tied to sacred artefacts.

The early Valka missions provide crucial background on Eivor’s destiny as the reincarnation of fabled god Odin, who is seeking to foil apocalyptic prophecies tied to other deities like Thor and Loki. These stunning quests feature massive battles with mythic beasts and gods in the splendor of Asgard.

I still get chills watching the incredible intro cinematic to the first Asgard arc with the fateful showdown between Odin and Fenrir that sets Ragnarök in motion!

Valka Missions Overview

ArcLengthBossesKey Lore
A Wise Friend2 hoursN/AIntroduces Valka and vision quests
Going Deeper3 hoursFrost PhantomOdin vs Fenrir backstory
Binding Fate4 hoursSons of RagnarokThor‘s fall, Ragnarok prophecy

Based on my enjoyment, I would hate for players to miss out on these 5 hours of magical content that make the rest of the game far more meaningful.

Animus Anomalies Set Up the Modern Day Story

Another set of side content that I consider vital are the animus anomalies. These bizarre glitches in the simulation lead to puzzle platforming challenges. Solving 10 of the 15 unique anomalies provides exciting easter eggs about the AC universe like the life of historical assassin Kassandra!

I won’t spoil the incredible ending here. But unraveling mysteries through messages left behind by elite hackers interweaving Norse code definitely makes for a profound payoff.

Power Up For Late Game Bosses

Here is a quick reference chart I’ve created indicating the recommended power levels as you progress through content based on community wiki data:

ContentExpected Power Level
Main Story100
River Raids130
Wrath of the Druids150
Dawn of Ragnarök340
Siege of Paris400

As you can see, the Paris DLC scales way beyond the base game into hardcore territory! But finishing the main game, Wrath of the Druids expansion, and using river raids to build up your settlement prepares you to wield Odin’s new reality-bending abilities against imposing fire giants!

Dawn of Ragnarök Changes the Game

This epic 40 hour DLC lets you step into Odin’s shoes like never before with a completely new ability tree and realm packing tons of surprises. I won’t spoil any specifics here. But it is a stunning culmination of themes set up in Valka’s missions and the main game bringing Ragnarök to vivid life!

My only regret is accidentally wandering into Svartalfheim before intended, causing some early game spoilers. So learn from my mistake and play the content in prescribed order for most riveting ride through viking end times!

Hope this guide from a devoted fan helps you extract every ounce of enjoyment out of AC’s best modern-day viking simulator and greatest hits of Norse legends!
