SAN MARCOS, Texas – Troy baseball and Texas State battled 11 innings Sunday afternoon at Bobcat Ballpark as both sides refused to lose. Ultimately, Texas State came out on top, 8-6, with a two-run walk-off homer by Chase Mora.

Troy (35-18, 17-10 SBC) flipped the script by getting on the board first in the second inning when Tremayne Cobb Jr. forced the fielding error on the Bobcats (26-26, 12-15 SBC) before Aidan Gilroy took a 0-0 single down the third base line and a fielder's choice for Mikey Bello put runners on first and third. Cobb Jr. pounced on a wild pitch with Peyton Watts in the batter's box to score, 1-0.

August Ramirez opened Texas State's response in the bottom half with a single to right center, and Davis Powell followed suit with a 1-1 single to center field. The Bobcats got on the board, 1-1, with an Alec Patino single up the middle that resulted in an error as the Trojans aimed to get the out at home. A 4-2 walk for Daylan Pena loaded the bases, allowing a sac fly for Cade Manning to take a 2-1 lead.

A three-run shot over the left field wall, 5-1, from Alec Patino extended the Bobcats' advantage in the fourth – runners got on via a 4-0 walk for Ramirez and a 1-2 single.

The rally began in the fifth for Troy after Gilroy moved into a tie for the No. 6 spot in HBPs for a single season (17), and Bello extended his hit streak to five on a 3-2 double down the right-field line. Peyton Watts put the ball in play to second, which brought Gilroy home, 5-2, and advanced Bello. Up 3-1 in the count, Kole Myers got his pitch and hammered his first multi-run homer of 2024, 5-4, over the right field wall.

Bello shined in the sixth to tie the game, 5-5, after Kyle Mock and Gilroy earned walks. No. 31 battled his way to another full count before tapping a single up the middle, bringing Mock home from second. The Trojans had an opportunity to take the lead when Watts got HBP to load the bases, but a flyout three pitches later ended the inning.

Mayhem ensued in the ninth inning after Ethan Kavanagh singled to left center and Parker Sessions entered to pinch run. A wild pitch put Sessions on second, and Mock found himself down 1-2 in the count. He swung out, but Texas State failed to corral the ball, allowing Mock to reach safely and Sessions came around from home and beat the tag to take the 6-5 lead.

Texas State pushed it to extra innings on back-to-back walks with one out on the board. With runners on first and second, Chase Mora sent a 0-1 single to left field, bringing the tying run home, 6-6.

Both sides threatened to score in the 10th when Gilroy walked and advanced to third on a sac bunt and flyout to center – Myers got intentionally walked and stole second to put runners on second and third. However, the Bobcats kept Troy silent with a strikeout before the offense put runners on first and second with a single and fielding error. However, Troy's defense stood firm when Pena sent a shot to Cobb Jr., who connected with Watts and Butcher for the double play.

Alex Gonzales entered to pinch hit in the bottom of the 11th and singled up the middle – advanced to second on a sac bunt. Mora stepped up to bat and took his first pitch to the left field wall, clearing it, 8-6, and ending the game on a walk-off home run.

Head Coach Skylar Meade
"Kudos to Texas State for its compete and shutting us down all weekend. We had our opportunities through it all but didn't get the job done. Outstanding work by Ross and Dill, but overall, just not enough. We will regroup and be just fine. I'm excited to get back to work Tuesday and prepare for the weekend. Lastly, I want to send a Mother's Day shoutout to all moms nationwide, our 'moms of Troy baseball,' and all moms close to myself and staff."
