Baseball: Hawks Eliminated from CCC Tournament in Loss to Western New England

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Roger Williams University baseball team fell to No. 5 Western New England, 4-3, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Elimination Game, with the Golden Bears knocking the Hawks out of the CCC Tournament.
 
Lucas Lariviere (Cumberland, R.I.) picked up the loss for Roger Williams, moving his record to 5-2 on the season. Lariviere gave up four runs, two earned with a pair of walks and three strikeouts of seven hits. Tanner Wall earned the win for Western New England with a complete game, giving up three earned runs off seven hits and a pair of walks.
 
At the plate, London Camelo (Bristol, R.I.) went 3-for-4 with an RBI in the matchup, while Aidan Hawley (Natick, Mass.) and Owen Hibbard (Roxbury, Mass.) each had a hit and an RBI in the contest. Sean Jamieson had a hit and two RBIs with a home run, while
 
Western New England struck first in the opening frame of the contest. Joey Bova singled to right field and, S. Jamieson followed with a home run to right field to give Western New England a 2-0 lead with two outs.
 
In the top of the third inning the Golden Bears expanded their lead with Montini coming across the plate to score after an error by the Hawks' third baseman, allowed him to advance an extra base. Cole then hit a single to left center field brining in Jamieson to score.
 
In the bottom of the third, Roger Williams responded with three runs, after Dennis Folan (Roxbury, Conn.) had a lead off walk, Hawley then hit a double down the left field line, with Folan beating the throw to the plate. Camelo followed after with a single to left field, before a sacrifice fly, later in the inning by Hibbard brought Camelo in to cut the lead to one.
 
JT Gunzy (Danbury, Conn.) then came in in relief pitching 6.0 innings of scoreless ball, throwing 67 pitches, with five strikeouts, facing 19 batters, retiring 18. While the Hawks were held scoreless through the rest of the contest by Wall.
 
Roger Williams (24-13-1, 9-5 CCC) await their fate with the reveal of the NCAA Tournament bracket.
