Former United States president Donald Trump’s youngest child, Barron Trump, is all set to enter the political arena with a role at the Republican National Convention in July.

Republican Party of Florida chairperson Evan Power said the 18-year-old high school senior will serve as one of 41 at-large delegates from Florida to the national gathering, where the GOP is set to officially nominate his father as its presidential candidate for the November federal election.

NBC News first reported the choice of Barron Trump as a delegate.

Barron will be joining his siblings – Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, and Tiffany Trump – in representing Florida at the event in Milwaukee on 15-18 July.

Trump supporter Sergio Gor and his longtime friend and developer of luxury real estate, Steve Witkoff, are both listed as delegates, as per CNN.

At the convention, representatives from every state will choose their nominee for the November election, establishing Donald Trump as the Republican opponent of Democrat president Joe Biden.

“He’s on the delegation roster and Barron is very interested in our nation’s political process,” a Republican campaign official told ABC News.

About Donald Trump’s youngest son

Barron Trump, the first child of Donald and Melania Trump, was born on 20 March 2006. Melania and Donald got married in 2005, according to People magazine.

The 18-year-old spent his early years in his family’s luxury penthouse in New York City and attended esteemed private schools on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.

Barron and Melania Trump lived in Manhattan, where he could complete his education, after Donald Trump was elected president and took office in January 2017.

He enrolled in St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Maryland that summer, and at the age of 11, he moved into the White House, becoming the first male child to live there since John F Kennedy Jr in 1963.

Barron has gone to a private school in Palm Beach ever since the family moved to Florida after the president’s term ended, as per BBC News.

The high school senior, who stands six feet seven inches tall, was seen towering over his relatives during his grandmother’s funeral earlier this year.

Barron speaks Slovenian, which is Melania’s native tongue, as well as English.

Donald Trump Jr., Eric, Tiffany, Ivanka, and the other elder Trump children were more involved in their father’s administration than Barron, who had his privacy strictly monitored.

“Barron has always been a first priority in (Melania’s) life,” a source told People in March 2023, amid the twice-impeached former president’s legal troubles.

Donald also seems to be prioritising his son, as his attorney requested that Judge Juan Merchan postpone the criminal hush money trial until May 2024 for Barron’s graduation. The request was approved by the court on 30 April.

Trump’s family support

Don Jr. and Eric are both often on Donald Trump’s side and are regulars on the campaign trail as they seek his re-election.

“We are fortunate to have a great group of grassroots leaders, elected officials, and members of the Trump family working together as part of the Florida delegation to the 2024 Republican National Convention," Power said in an emailed statement, as per The Associated Press.

Trump has been tightening his family’s grip over the party ahead of the vote, as per AFP.

In March, the Republican National Committee elected Eric’s wife, Lara, to a leadership position.

After serving as an advisor to her father during his White House tenure, Ivanka Trump, the eldest daughter of Donald, has distanced herself and declared she will not be involved in his 2024 campaign.

Melania Trump has not made many public appearances since her husband left office, but as the campaign heats up, she is expected to start doing so.

In the Republican primary, Donald has already secured 2,037 delegates, much more than the 1,215 required to secure the nomination.

On the other side of politics, President Joe Biden is scheduled to be officially announced as the Democratic nominee at his party’s convention in Chicago this August.

According to BBC, this will lead to the first presidential rematch in American history since 1956, when Republican Dwight Eisenhower defeated Democrat Adlai Stevenson a second time.

Trump is managing both his legal issues and his campaign this time.

He is being charged with multiple offences in four different cases.

He’s been accused of fabricating company records, and his first criminal trial is underway in New York City. He disputes any misconduct.
