Theatre Returns to the Botanic Garden with Two Summer Productions

Following on from the successful productions at Botanic Garden last year, Attenborough Arts Centre in collaboration with the University of Leicester’s Conferences and Estates team are hosting two upcoming events this Summer.

Back for another season, The Duke’s Theatre Company follow their acclaimed tours of Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Twelfth Night with As You Like It. The ancient Forest of Arden serves as the backdrop for Shakespeare’s most famous and quotable comedy. When Rosalind is banished from Duke Ferdinand’s court, new identities are explored with hilarious consequences. Taking place Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 June at 6pm, the Thursday showing will be BSL interpreted to ensure accessibility for all.

For young families in July, Golden Toad Theatre will be presenting the interactive musical Errol’s Garden for children aged 3-8 and their grownups. The show follows Errol who loves plants so much that he has them growing out of every pot, pan, and teacup he can find in his small flat. But he knows that plants need water, sunlight, and space. They need a garden. Filled with catchy songs, big ideas, and a passion for plants, join Errol and his sister Tia as they transform their neglected rooftop into a beautiful community garden, Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 July, 11am – 12pm.

Speaking about last year’s Botanic Garden events, Andrew Fletcher, Director of Attenborough Arts Centre, said:

“It was wonderful to welcome so many people, including local residents and first-time visitors to the Botanic Garden to enjoy an entertaining show on a summer’s evening with the beautiful backdrop of The Knoll. There was a brilliant atmosphere and feedback from audiences has been glowing – this experience therefore provides a great model for future events.”

Two incredible productions to take place in the unique and beautiful setting of the Botanic Garden. For each performance seating is not provided so audiences are encouraged to bring their own garden chairs, camping chairs or blankets. Food and drink will be available for purchase will free parking for cars close by.
