A new biopic based on the life of Dmitri Shostakovich is set to be filmed in 2025.

Hollywood Reporter is reporting that German actor August Diehl and Oscar-nominee actress Andrea Riseborough are set to star in the new film “The Noise of Time.”

Christopher Hampton will adapt the novel by Julian Barnes of the same name, while Polish director Jan Komasa will helm the picture. The film will tell the story of Shostakovich’s life and career, beginning in 1936 when the 30-year-old composer faced Stalin’s wrath after one of his operas was condemned as counter-revolutionary.

The film is being brought to the Cannes film market where Beta Cinema is handling world sales and will introduce it to buyers.

This is the latest film announced about a classical composer that Hollywood is exploring. Previously films about Vivaldi and Händel were announced and there is also a new Mozart series in production. Last year Netflix released “Maestro” about the life of Leonard Bernstein, while Searchlight released “Chevalier” about Joseph Bologne.
