Two Concerts of the Night of the Organs Will Take place in Szeklerland

The Night of the Organs will take place at two locations in Szeklerland on Saturday, May 18, in Sfântu Gheorghe (Sepsiszentgyörgy) and Merești (Homoródalmás), as announced by the Liszt Institute of Sfântu Gheorghe on Monday.
The two concerts in Szeklerland are a result of collaboration between Philharmonia Hungary and the Liszt Institute of Sfântu Gheorghe. As part of this year’s international program series, Mónika Kecskés and László Deák will perform an organ recital at the King Christ Roman Catholic Church in Sfântu Gheorghe starting at 7 p.m. on May 18.
These organists, who have studied in Paris, London, and Vienna, have participated in prestigious international organ competitions.
At their joint concert in Szeklerland, they will perform works by various artists and Tibor Pikéthy’s Improvisation on the Hungarian National Anthem.
In addition, the Unitarian Church of Merești will host a concert by Erich Türk, also on Pentecost Saturday at 7 p.m. Türk, a renowned Transylvanian organist and harpsichordist, is a lecturer at the Gheorghe Dima Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca.

He served as organist and choirmaster of the Evangelical Church of Mediaș (Medgyes) from 1995 to 1999, and currently teaches organ, harpsichord, instrumental, and chamber music in Cluj-Napoca. He has given numerous concerts abroad as a soloist, and is a member of the Baroque Ensemble ‘Transylvania’, and the Balkan Baroque Band. He is also known for his performances of contemporary music and for being the first to perform works by several Hungarian composers.
As part of the program, ‘Fanfare Ungarico,’ composed for the occasion by Ádám Balázs, composer of the Oscar-winning film Sing, will be performed at all venues on Saturday.
Notably, the concerts in Szeklerland are free of charge.
The Night of the Organs, organized by Philharmonia Hungary for years, will become international this year. It will be held in nearly 30 countries on four continents on Pentecost Saturday with the aim of showcasing the versatility of the instrument.
