The blaze started shortly after 11 p.m. at the end of this street in the Ascot district. The flames were impressive and there were many onlookers on Évangéline Street to see the scale of this which required a third alarm and around thirty firefighters from five fire stations, according to the of Sherbrooke.

“The smell made us go out onto the gallery, and when we got outside, the sky was orange and people were screaming in the distance,” said Mary Labbé, a resident of the area who posted some videos of the blaze on social networks . When they went to see if people needed help, the firefighters arrived.”

At the height of the blaze, some 5,000 electrical outages were recorded in the area, according to the City of Sherbrooke’s interactive map. About an hour after the fire started, the power was back on.
