The Fable – Season 1 Episode 6 Recap & Review

Prison Release Jamboree

Episode 6 of The Fable begins with Misaki’s boss showing Fable the Porsches they use for their deliveries. Misaki’s boss ensures Fable it won’t take him long to reach his destination despite Fable looking slightly disappointed. Next, Takeshi and Kojima visit a restaurant to eat. Takeshi informs Kojima about how Hiroshi’s been running things at the organization and Kojima’s not a fan of how he’s operating things.

After that, Takeshi and Kojima enter Takeshi’s vehicle and drive off somewhere. During their drive, the two run into Fable. Fable and Kojima glance at each other briefly but don’t chat. Takeshi tells Kojima that Fable’s an acquaintance of theirs. Fable returns to his workplace. He tells Misaki’s boss that he finished his delivery, much to Misaki’s boss’s surprise.

Misaki’s boss plans to check with the client to see if Fable successfully delivered the package. He ensures Fable he trusts him, but he wants to ensure the client obtains their delivery. Misaki offers Fable coffee but Fable says he had coffee already. One of Misaki’s co-workers informs her and her boss that the client received their package and had coffee with Fable.

Misaki’s boss plans to throw a welcome party for Fable. Next, Hiroshi presents Kojima with his payment for his hard work. Hiroshi asks Kojima what he wants to do now that he’s open to rejoining the yakuza. Kojima says he doesn’t want others to perceive him as a role model due to his screw-up lifestyle. Rather, he wants other yakuza to follow a path different from his.

Later, Takeshi tells Kojima to make himself at home. Yet, he does want Kojima to search for a place to call home. Kojima asks Takeshi if he can use a specific house, but Takeshi lies and tells him that Hiroshi’s relatives are using it. Truthfully, Fable’s using that house. Regardless, Takeshi tells Kojima to relax and promises to supply him with a vehicle.

Kojima requests for a gun but Takeshi refuses to get him one. Takeshi tells Kojima that things have been peaceful among the different yakuza and civilians in this town. He suggests Kojima take it easy and abandon his desire for a firearm. Later, Fable, Misaki, and the others visit a restaurant. Fable and Misaki’s boss discuss profits and experience.

Then, Fable drops something and notices one of his coworkers has a camera between their legs. Fable notices Misaki’s wearing a skirt and Misaki tells him that she works at a bar too. Then, Fable eats something strange. This spirals into a discussion about Fable’s bizarre eating habits and harsh early life experiences. Misaki cries even though Fable tells her that he adores the terrible life he was put through.

While Misaki tells Fable not to eat his meal bone, the camera-armed gentlemen tilts the camera toward Misaki’s skirt. Fable notices what Misaki’s co-worker’s up to and swiftly flicks a chicken bone at the camera to change its direction. Later, Misaki tells the boys she’ll be heading to the bar. Her male co-worker insists on walking her to the bar.

When the two leave, Misaki’s boss orders Fable to go to another place with him. Fable tells Misaki’s boss he’s okay with that. Then, Misaki’s co-worker spots Misaki’s keys in her bag and convinces her to let him carry her backpack. When the two reach the bar, Misaki’s co-worker returns it to her and wishes her the best. When she’s away, we learn Misaki’s coworker swiped Misaki’s keys somehow.

Meanwhile, Fable and Misaki’s boss visit a bar. Misaki’s boss introduces Fable to the bar owner named Mama and praises Fable. Then, several yakuza members from the Maguro Group arrive. Mama tells Misaki’s boss and Fable that they occasionally visit this location. Kuro and his buddy enter the bar and Mama tells them to pipe down.

Kuro acts rude and changes his attitude when he spots Fable in the bar. He punches his ally in the face and apologizes to Mama for being loud. Kuro tells his comrade to stay quiet. Simultaneously, Kuro contemplates how to approach Fable because he wants to ask him questions. Kuro starts praising himself and hopes this will catch Fable’s attention.

While that’s happening, Misaki’s boss insists Fable visit a gym and learn martial arts. Misaki’s boss tells Mama that he wants Fable to get stronger and he mentions Fable’s edamame skin-eating fiasco at the welcome party. Kuro hears that remark and starts eating multiple edamame skins. Then, Kuro’s comrade yells at Misaki’s boss. Kuro tells his comrade to pipe down because he doesn’t want to get on Fable’s bad side.

Then, Misaki’s coworker enters her home and starts rummaging through her undergarment compartments. He starts performing nefarious things with her attire and hopes to finish his raunchy activities before Misaki returns home. Through this endeavor, her male co-worker learns she is a model and starts snapping photos of her model pictures from a book.

Next, we return to following Fable and Misaki’s boss. The two depart from Mama’s bar and Kuro apologizes for causing them issues. Then, Fable returns home and tells Captain how things went with Misaki’s boss. Fable unsheathes the knife he told Misaki and the others about. Next, we receive a brief flashback detailing Fable’s harsh journey as a child in the forest he spoke of.

Misaki returns home and calls Fable. She asks him to stop by and help her with her front door. Fable tries opening the door and Misaki tells him that she lost her keys. Although Fable knows he can open this lock in five minutes, he tells Misaki that he can’t open it. Misaki says she’ll call a locksmith even though it’ll take them a while to get here.

Fable suggests she stay at his place until the locksmith arrives. Misaki isn’t sure how to respond so Fable departs. Then, Misaki asks Fable about Yoko and wonders if she can stay with her. Meanwhile, Misaki’s coworker researches Misaki’s model work and learns she worked on a nefarious project. Simultaneously, Fable and Misaki visit Yoko’s home. Yoko opens the door and the episode ends with Fable belittling Yoko for smelling like booze.

The Episode Review

“All that glitters is not gold” is a saying that best describes this chapter’s events. While Misaki appears as a bright, kind-hearted girl on the surface, it appears she got roped into some nefarious activities in her life, much like Fable. However, Misaki likely participated in these crude affairs for righteous reasons which are likely tied to the goals Takeshi told Fable about in a previous chapter.

Hopefully, her perverted co-worker gets his comeuppance soon because no one should have their private lives and belongings defiled. Although it’s likely folks will despise this weird co-worker for his actions, Tezuka Productions Studios deserves praise for animating him in such a realistic way. It not only brings that scene to life but it also elevates the horror behind his actions.

Fear isn’t the only emotion fans will feel from episode 6 though. This chapter contained some commendable humor regarding the Kuro and Fable bar scene. Whether it’s Kuro hitting his ally or him boasting about himself to impress Fable, fans will laugh at this yakuza member’s attempts at getting our protagonist’s attention. Overall, this was a wonderful chapter of The Fable, despite there being some essence of plot convenience.
