Celtic announce popular fan favourite to take part in Borussia Dortmund charity match

Celtic continue to construct an impressive squad for their Legends charity match against Borussia Dortmund next month at Parkhead.

Several star-studded names have already been announced for the encounter, including Scott Brown, Artur Boruc, Emilio Izaguirre, Stiliyan Petrov, Jan Venegoor of Hesselink, Joe Ledley, and Charlie Mulgrew. Ticket availability is still vast via the official club website.

Paul Lambert and Tom Boyd will be in the dugout on May 26th on what promises to be a special occasion with the club’s charitable motto at its heart.

The money raised from the match will support food provision in several locations across the UK and Ireland, with Dundee Cancer Centre at Ninewells Hospital also receiving a financial donation.

Further announcements are expected in due course, and fans will hold out hope that even more icons of the past could potentially return to perform in front of their adoring public once more.

Nevertheless, the Celtic FC Foundation deserve great credit once again for organising the affair, which comes a little over a year after the Legends turned out in front of 45,000 at Anfield against Liverpool last March.

100% of the proceeds went towards several initiatives in a combined effort from both foundations, and we are now seeing something similar in conjunction with Dortmund, keeping the unselfish nature of the Hoops’ existence alive and kicking.

For many, his double in Celtic’s 2-0 victory over Rangers at Ibrox in 2011 will be remembered as his finest hour in green and white, alongside his talismanic status in Neil Lennon’s 2012/13 side that progressed to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Undoubtedly, his return to Glasgow’s east end in late May is likely to amplify anticipation ahead of a compelling glamour match against one of Germany’s biggest clubs.
