RCB captain Faf du Plessis took a one-handed stunner to dismiss Mitchell Santner during RCB vs CSK Match 68 of IPL 2024 on Saturday, May 18 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Notably, the hosts had an uphill task of restricting CSK to 200 to qualify for the playoffs as they were giving everything out in the field.

Captain Faf du Plessis inspired his side with a sensational one-handed take at long off during the 15th over of the second innings. On the last ball of the over bowled by Mohammed Siraj, Santner hit a low full toss towards the RCB skipper at mid-off. The southpaw managed to get elevation and the ball seemed to go over Du Plessis’ head.

However, the 39-year-old jumped to his full height and managed to grab a jaw-dropping catch to bring curtains down on Santner’s innings. Seeing his captain pull off an impossible catch, Virat Kohli came running in to celebrate the dismissal along with other teammates. The entire CSK dugout was also left awestruck as they were left gasping seeing Du Plessis’ athleticism.

Meanwhile, earlier in the day, Du Plessis also shone with the bat as he top stop-scoredhis side with his innings of 54 (39) with the help of three fours and as many sixes. However, his innings was brought to an end by a contentious run-out call by the third umpire. Apart from him, Kohli also looked in fine knick with his knock of 47 (29) before being holed out to long on.

RCB qualify for playoffs

The duo added 78 runs for the first wicket off 58 balls and batted through a tricky period where spinners were on top. Following their dismissals, Cameron Green (38 off 17), Rajat Patidar (41 off 23), Glenn Maxwell (16 off 5) and Dinesh Karthik (14 off 6) guided RCB to a score of 218/5 in their allotted 20 overs.

In reply, CSK lost their captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (0 off 1) and Daryl Mitchell (4 off 6) early. Rachin Ravindra (61 off 37) bailed his team out of early trouble before being involved in an unfortunate run-out with Shivam Dube. However, it didn't turn out to be enough for his team as RCB beat them by 27 runs to qualify for the playoffs.
