PAGASA Says Shear Line to Affect PH Weather Condition

On Friday (May 17, 2024), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. The shear line will affect the country’s weather conditions.

PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio reported that the shear line will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over extreme Northern Luzon, including Batanes, Cagayan, and Isabela.

“Pero asahan ang isolated na mga pagulan dulot ng thunderstorms sa bandang hapon at gabi,” Aurelio added.

On the other hand, generally fair weather with partly overcast to overcast skies is expected over the remaining parts of the country.

A cloud cluster is being monitored by PAGASA outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) within the intertropical convergence zone, according to Aurelio. However, it will not affect the country’s weather. No low-pressure area is expected to form within PAR.

Meanwhile, the coastal water condition over the northern and western sections of Northern Luzon will be moderate to rough. Slight to moderate surrounding sea conditions are expected over the rest of the archipelago, according to PAGASA.

The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), Pasay City station will experience a heat index of 43 degrees Celsius while the Science Garden in Quezon City will remain at 42 degrees Celsius. Metro Manila remains at a dangerous heat index level.
