People believe they could beat a bear or gorilla in a fight

People reckon they have more chance beating a grizzly bear or gorilla barehanded than they would have of overcoming boxing legend Tyson Fury or UFC's Conor McGregor. A survey of 2,000 people quizzed the nation on what animals, professional boxers and celebs they reckon they could defeat in a one-on-one scrap.

One in 25 believe they could overcome the hairy beasts in an unarmed one-on-one bout, compared to around one in 30 (3.4%) who are confident they could better boxing royalty Fury.Me anwhile even less back themselves to beat the MMA legend McGregor.

The majority are confident they could beat at least one type of animal in a fight, in their natural environment, without any help according to online casino MrQ's poll.

Unsurprisingly men are a lot more likely to claim they could have a scrap with an animal in the wild and win. Nearly three-quarters (72%) reckon they'd be able to do this, versus half (49%) of women.

One in twenty men seem to think they could beat a gorilla or a grizzly bear, or both, in a scrap, while men are almost three times more likely than women to expect to beat a chimpanzee in a bout too (8% v 3%). More people think they could beat current world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (3%) in a boxing match than his dad John Fury (2%).

While John used to be a bare-knuckle fighter and professional boxer, several survey respondents said it was John's 'unpredictable nature' and 'no-rules-apply attitude’ that would make him a bigger threat in the ring. Around one in five (18%) also think they could beat Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in a fight, despite him holding a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ).

Men are around three times more likely to think they could win in a scrap against Zuckerberg, than women (29% versus 10%), although one in ten women still reckon they’d scoop the title of champion. Men are also five times more likely to think they could fight and win against Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, than women (21% versus 4%).

Overall, more people think they could beat Zuckerberg (18%) in a fight than Tesla and X boss Elon Musk (17%) or Jeff Bezos (11%). Small dogs seem to be the least worrying opponent, with a third (32%) expecting to win in a battle with a chihuahua.

One in ten Brits (10%) even think they could beat five of these yappy but not-too-scrappy dogs at once. Cats, rats, swans and foxes also made it into the top-five list of animal adversaries that the nation is confident it could take on.

Rosie Maskell, Senior Marketing Executive at MrQ said: "There are a worrying number of people out there who are confident in their fighting prowess. I strongly suspect the lion, the bear, the gorilla or the trained boxer would win every time, although I certainly won’t be putting that to the test.

"Obviously, we hope it goes without saying that this is only intended to be a light-hearted survey to spark some friendly debate. No animal should ever be attacked and fighting between humans is always best left to the professionals."
