Everton have been offered a loan of up to £150m by a private equity firm specialising in 'distressed debt' to help finance the completion of the club's new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.

New York-based GDA Luma Capital has presented a debt financing proposal to provide stability amid the backdrop of the takeover uncertainty with discussions ongoing, as first reported by Bloomberg., external

The offer is subject to due diligence and BBC Sport understands it is a straightforward loan and there is no trigger for equity in the club or being involved in the takeover process.

Everton have declined to comment.

In December, the club said the 52,888-capacity stadium remains on schedule to be completed by the end of 2024 and for the move from Goodison Park to be made by the start of the 2025-26 campaign.

Manchester City have lost four games in normal time this season, but Rodri did not play in any of them.

In fact, the Spain midfielder has now gone more than a year without losing a game for club or country.

The 27-year-old may have missed out on the awards for Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year and the Premier League player of the season, but the CIES Football Observatory has ranked him as this season's 'most impactful player', external across 54 leagues around the world.

The impact score was calculated by taking into account players’ performances in six areas of the game, domestic league minutes and results.

Arsenal's Martin Odegaard (third) and Liverpool's Alexis Mac Allister (seventh) were the next highest Premier League players.

Manchester City and England midfielder Phil Foden was voted as the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year and was also nominated for the Premier League player of the season award.

A surprise omission from the eight-player shortlist was his team-mate Rodri, but both are among the four candidates nominated for City in our player of the season poll for each Premier League club.

In recent weeks, Jean-Philippe Mateta's scoring has not been the only talking point around the player. He's recently started tucking his shirt into his shorts during games, something you don't see from players much any more.

Mateta has said it is not a superstition or something that he's done to stay in form but it is just about amusing team-mates.

"I was eating with the lads before Nottingham Forest, we were in the hotel. Jordan Ayew said ‘I saw your game when you start football you tuck in your shirt.’ I said ‘OK, let’s do this’.

"I started to do this, it’s funny. It’s more fun for me when people start talking about this. I'm a guy that doesn't take everything seriously, sometime i like to laugh.

"Its more of a funny thing. I started football like this. Because he told me this I said let me do it again."

Jean-Philippe Mateta is one of the most in form players in the Premier League at the moment. He has scored 10 goals in his last 12 Premier League games and continues to win the hearts of Crystal Palace fans.

Not only does he have supporters shout 'boom' when he kicks the corner flag with his trademark celebration, he has started to shout 'fantastic' into the club's camera after each win which the club post on their social media channels.

The Eagles have won five of their last six games so Mateta has been able to do it a lot in that time. I recently sat down to interview him and he told me the funny story about how Ray Lewington, Roy Hodgson's assistant inspired the shout.

"When Ray would do meetings he would say ‘this is fantastic lads’ and he used to say this, always in training I say it to the goalkeeping coach for fun Dean Kiely, and Paddy (McCarthy) and they’re laughing at this." Mateta said.

"I just like when the atmosphere is good around the dressing room. We do the best job in the world. You can't be sad or angry all the time.

"Yes, when you lose ok. But when you're with your teammate or the gaffer and everyone, for me the atmosphere has to be good."

Newcastle could complete a league double against Manchester United for the first time since the 1930-31 campaign.

Not only would it be a historic victory, it would be a massive help to the Magpies' hopes of Europa League football next season.

The Red Devils will be boosted by the return of defender Lisandro Martinez returns to the squad after six weeks out with a leg injury.

Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Willy Kambwala will be assessed before tonight's game against Newcastle.

The Magpies, meanwhile, will assess striker Alexander Isak, who was substituted in the second half of their 1-1 draw with Brighton last weekend having felt unwell.

Manchester United manager Marc Skinner says he understands why the club have cancelled their end-of-season awards dinner despite his side winning the Women's FA Cup.

The dinner has been cancelled with the men's team preparing for their FA Cup final against Manchester City on 25 May.

United's men's team have endured a largely disappointing campaign and are eighth in the Premier League.

"I sit in a position of celebration rather than worrying about what has and hasn't happened," Skinner said.

"I understand the decision, I respect it and our girls will be presented at the appropriate time with the successes that a club will celebrate."

I am not sure there will be much honour involved but Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was asked if he and his players would do a 'lap of honour' after tonight's final home game of the season against Newcastle.

Given United have scrapped their end of season awards dinner, it was a fair enough point.

But Ten Hag says his players will walk round Old Trafford.

"Yes we will do. Yes, of course," he said.

"Good times and bad we are together. The fans are showing we are together, so yes we will do."

Ten Hag has singled United supporters out for praise in recent weeks, in particular for the way they remained behind the team during their recent 4-0 hammering by Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Let's hope Erik ten Hag and Manchester United fans are wearing their raincoats at Old Trafford tonight.

Heavy rain fell towards the end of their last game against Arsenal and water could be seen cascading down from the corner of the roof between the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand and East Stand on to the seats below.

Social media videos also showed water flowing down the steps of the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand, flooding a moat around the pitch.

But there are thunderstorms forecast for this afternoon, so we could be seeing the 'Theatre of Dreams' turn into the 'Theatre of Streams' once more!

Erik ten Hag has rejected the idea tonight could be his final game at Old Trafford as Manchester United manager.

United will still have a last-day trip to Brighton and the FA Cup final once the encounter with Newcastle is done.

But this is their final home game and there has been no clarity over Ten Hag's future beyond the end of the season.

The Dutchman seems quite relaxed. He is planning on being around next term.

"Goodbye? For me? It's not how I feel it and not how I see it," he said.

"It's not the way I go to start that lap of honour for the fans, no."

Manchester United could fail to qualify for European competition for the first time since 2014.

That was when David Moyes was in charge and the club ended the season trophy-less.

It is January 2023 and Newcastle United are looking to sign an attacking player to boost their push for a return to the Champions League after 20 years away.

The most prominent name in recruitment meetings is that of Anthony Gordon.

His £45m move from Everton was met with a mixed reception. Questions were raised over his attitude a few months on from a fiery clash with his new team-mates at St James’ Park when still an Everton player.

Now with 10 Premier League goals and 10 assists in his first full season on Tyneside - the first Newcastle player to achieve that feat since Ruel Fox in 1994-95 - Gordon has a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024 in his sights.

The 23-year-old’s doubters are now believers.

We have started to feel sorry for Manchester United, haven't we? Saying things like 'they put up a good fight' in their defeat by Arsenal, or talking about how they pushed them and made it edgy.

I agree they did all of the above, but surely with Manchester United you want to see a bit more quality in their performance as well? At the moment, they are showing about as much quality as the roof at Old Trafford did during the downpour after Sunday's game.

It's hard to see anything different from them this time so, with apologies to Manchester United's fans, I am going to back their team to lose again.

I might have been wrong with the exact scoreline in the Gunners game, but Arsenal were always going to win - more than 57,000 of you voted on the outcome on my predictions page last week and 74% of you agreed with me. I don't think anyone was surprised by the result.

I thought Newcastle United would beat Brighton on Saturday, but they missed Callum Wilson, who was ill. He could be back for this game, though, and would give them the cutting edge they were missing against the Seagulls.

Kenny Swain expects Unai Emery's European experience to prove crucial for Aston Villa next season.

Emery has won four Europa League titles while took Villa to the Europa Conference League semi-finals, losing to Olympiakos last week.

Swain, one of Villa's 1982 European Cup winning heroes, believes Emery's hunger for success will give his side an edge.

He said: "He has got a different appetite for European football because he has been so successful. I’d rather be going into it with someone like that at the helm than someone who is licking their lips about their first chance.

"His experience around Europe is key, he’s been around the block, it doesn’t matter if it's Champions League, Europa League, Conference League, he has manged in different countries, been with big clubs and has an amazing amount of experience stacked up.

"They (the players) failed at the last hurdle (this season) but the experience they’ve had this year and the suffering at the last moment - that drives your adrenaline. The experience will stand them in good stead for next year."

“If that coffee machine was not working properly, I genuinely wouldn’t be surprised to see it on the lawn.”

Brighton chief executive Paul Barber is talking about his charismatic, perfectionist and coveted manager Roberto de Zerbi.

“We have learned what he says externally is a little bit misunderstood. He speaks with his heart on his sleeve.”

Barber does not offer clarity over the De Zerbi’s Brighton future, but he does confirm conversations have always been honest and open.

“Privately, Roberto is quiet, calm, reasonable and sensible,” says Barber. “He understands what our limitations are. Behind the scenes, the model is very well known to him.

“He has got two more years to go. My understanding is that he is happy.

"He knows it is a club that has a particular model and we won’t break it for anyone. Those are consistent. He also knows he can see me or Tony (owner Tony Bloom) at any time. There are no surprises."
