Sophie Turner Says She 'Didn't Know If I Was Going to Make It' Amid Joe Jonas Split

The 'Game of Thrones' star calls the time after her split from Joe Jonas 'the worst few days of my life.'

Sophie Turner is sharing her side of the story. The 28-year-old actress is opening up in the new cover story for British Vogue about her September 2023 split from Joe Jonas. She recalls the mom shaming she endured in the days after as the narrative became that she was out partying while Jonas was dutifully staying with the former couple's two daughters, Willa, almost 4, and Delphine, almost 2.

"Those were the worst few days of my life," Turner tells the magazine, noting that she was "contracted to be on set" for the film Joan, forcing her to stay abroad while her kids remained with Jonas in America.

"It hurt because I really do completely torture myself over every move I make as a mother – mum guilt is so real!" Turner says. "I just kept having to say to myself, 'None of this is true. You are a good mum and you’ve never been a partier.'"

Amid the divorce proceedings, Turner notes that "there were some days that I didn't know if I was going to make it." She says she would even call her lawyer and tell her she didn't think she could do it.

"After two weeks of me being in a rut, she reminded me that it was my children I was fighting for," Turner says of her lawyer. "Once anyone says to me, 'Do it for your kids,' I'm doing it. I wouldn't do it for myself, but I'll find the strength for them."

Turner is "unhappy" with how the split played out and the narrative that followed her, but the Game of Thrones star quickly found that not all fans believed the stories.

"If something like this had happened to me 10 years ago I don't think I would have had the same support," she admits. "I just feel very lucky to be alive in a time when people are open-minded. Thank f**k for Gen Z."

As for how things are going now, Turner notes, "I think we're doing the best we can. I'm confident that we can figure it out. Joe is a great father to our children and that's all that I can ask for."

The British actress, who has been keen to relocate back to the U.K. with her daughters due to American gun laws and the restrictions on women's rights, says that she envisions future holidays with her ex and his famous family.

"My dream is to have a huge Christmas where my daughters can have their dad there, Joe's whole side of the family, their grandparents," she says. "I don't care about the politics, I just want the girls to feel loved and have everyone show up for them."

Turner and Jonas tied the knot in 2019 in an impromptu wedding in Las Vegas. Jonas filed for divorce in September 2023 and the proceedings, including a permanent custody agreement, are still ongoing. ET recently obtained court documents showing that a judge ordered Jonas to take action in the case as there has been none as of late. With the case facing possible dismissal for "lack of prosecution," Jonas' attorneys responded to the court, asking for the exes to have time to continue negotiations.
