Doug Gottlieb is leaving the sports media industry behind to become the next men's basketball coach at Green Bay. Moments ago, ESPN's Dick Vitale offered his thoughts on the hire.

Vitale made it abundantly clear that he's excited for Gottlieb. He expects the former Oklahoma State point guard to bring energy to Green Bay's basketball program.

"Yes DOUG GOTTLIEB ⁦@douggottlieb ⁩will bring energy spirit & a wealth of knowledge to @gbphoenixmbb ⁩ that he gained from his Dad Bob who I knew a former coach," Vitale wrote on X. "Also from coaches during his playing days."

Gottlieb's late father, Bob, coached at Milwaukee from 1975-1980. He had a 97-91 record during his time with the Panthers.

As you'd expect, Gottlieb is excited about the next chapter of his career.

"It is an honor beyond measure to be named the 10th men's basketball coach in UWGB history," Gottlieb said in a statement. "Every kid has a dream growing up -- some want to be a firefighter, others want to be president. I have always wanted to be a head basketball coach at the Division I level."

Gottlieb was on Green Bay's radar last hiring cycle, but the school hired Sundance Wicks. He left the program to become Wyoming's new coach.

We'll find out next season if Gottlieb has what it takes to be a good coach.
