Chad Michael Murray, known for his role as Jake in the hit 2003 film "Freaky Friday," recently expressed his enthusiasm about the possibility of returning for the sequel, revealing his readiness to step back into the beloved character's shoes.

In a conversation with E! News while promoting his latest project, "Mother of the Bride," Murray shared his excitement about the development of a new "Freaky Friday" film by Disney. "If Jake has a story to tell, I’d be there in a heartbeat," Murray said.

His sentiment not only reflects a deep affection for the original film but also an eagerness to revisit the dynamics with co-stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. Describing the experience of working with Curtis as an educational journey, he stated, "I learned so much from her.

If I had the opportunity, I would just dial in." Jamie Lee Curtis, revered in Hollywood, brings a unique energy to the set, something Murray looks forward to witnessing again. "Are you kidding me? Just to watch Jamie and Lindsay, to go back to work… To watch all that energy that Jamie brings to set… Hollywood royalty, period," he elaborated.

Sequel Production Details

The sequel, which is set to start shooting this summer in Los Angeles, will be directed by Nisha Ganatra with a script penned by Jordan Weiss. Andrew Gunn, who produced the original, is set to produce alongside Kristin Burr, ensuring continuity and a deep understanding of the franchise's heart.

"Freaky Friday" revolves around the whimsical yet touching story of a mother and daughter who unexpectedly switch bodies following a magical mishap with a Chinese fortune cookie. The concept is based on the 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers and has seen several adaptations over the years, including a 1976 version with Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster, a 1995 television movie with Shelly Long and Gaby Hoffmann, and a recent 2018 musical adaptation by Disney Channel featuring Cozi Zuehlsdorff and Heidi Blickenstaff.

As Disney prepares to bring this beloved story back to life, the inclusion of original cast members like Murray could offer a fresh yet nostalgic twist to the new adaptation, potentially drawing in fans of the original film and new audiences alike.

With the promise of revisiting familiar faces and the magic that made "Freaky Friday" a cultural staple, the anticipation for the sequel is certainly mounting.
