Sand Land Character guide
The characters you'll meet in Sand Land can be placed into two main groups: Our hero Beelzebub and his allies, and the Royal Army militants that stand between them and the Legendary Spring. Below, you'll find a brief explanation for all of these characters, along with a few breakout pages for deeper dives into Beelzebub, his crew, and more.
Beelzebub
Beelzebub is the Fiend Prince of the demons who inhabit Sand Land's world. He sets off in search of the Legendary Spring and the water it provides after meeting with Sheriff Rao and accepting his offering of video games in return. Beelzebub makes sure to ask his father, Lucifer, if he can go on the adventure first -- he is still a child, after all.
Sheriff Rao
Sheriff Rao is a human trying to survive the harsh desert world of Sand Land. He approaches the demon village in search of one willing to help him on his quest to find the Legendary Spring, which can provide water to the entire world in endless supply. Rao acts as support for Beelzebub throughout the game, with a ten abilities you can unlock to make the Fiend Prince stronger.
Thief
As the name implies, the demon Thief is a master of stealth and procurement who is volunteered by Beelzebub to join the quest for the Legendary Spring. When sneaking into a village or camp, he dons a special (and suspiciously familiar) costume -- one that he says offers him an easy explanation should he be caught. Thief also serves as support for Beelzebub throughout the game.
Ann
Ann is a mysterious woman from another region who joins the team after their daring escape from Napps Base. She is an expert mechanic, and she shows off her skills by fixing the tank the team uses to make their escape. Once you reach Spino, she remains in the garage and helps build new vehicles, upgrade the ones you have, and make new parts.
Lucifer
Lucifer is the King of Fiends, and Beelzebub's father. We see him give Beelzebub permission to explore the wastes in search of the Legendary Spring, but on one condition: The prince can only play the video games Rao gifted him for one hour a day on school nights. Sounds fair, honestly; Lucifer is showing some good parenting skills here.
General Are
A general in the Royal Army, and one of Sand Land's antagonists. Beelzebub and the crew first meet up with Are on the way to Spino, where the general attacks the group in a flying cargo. After he's defeated, he flies away before receiving a call from his angry boss...
Supreme Commander Zeu
The leader of the Royal Army and one of Sand Land's main antagonists. We don't learn much from our first experience with him, as we simply watch him chastise General Are after he's defeated by Team Beelzebub, but from that call alone he sounds like a tough customer. Rao expresses surprise upon hearing his name, which suggests a history between the two.
Mayor Tor
Mayor Tor is the appointed leader of Spino, a dying town ravaged by the war. He plans to stay in Spino until his death -- alone, if necessary -- until Ann vouches for the group by handing him a note from "Lango." He then lets the team stay, with Ann assuming control of the garage.
King Of Sand Land
The King Of Sand Land is a greedy, hapless monarch who folds under any pressure from his military leaders. He is first seen behind Supreme Commander Zeu, as an accomplice to the commander's schemes. Eventually, though unwilling, he begins to aid the team.
The Swimmers
The Swimmers -- Pike (front), Guppy (back), Papa (middle), and Shark (right) -- are a band of bounty hunters who run into Beelzebub's group frequently throughout the adventure. Papa leads the group, while the other three help in different ways: Guppy wields a long-range rifle, Pike can draw with incredible detail, and Shark can run at super speeds.
General Epi
Epi is a general in the Forest Land army, who makes his first appearance in the second half of the game. He is a ruthless general who attempts to steal the Aquanium from the Lisab Battleship, where he does battle with Beelzebub and the team during the Taking Ann Home story mission.
General Krowa
Krowa is another general in the Forest Land Army. Pompous to a fault, Krowa battles Beelzebub atop his customer hovercraft within the Starannis Ruins during theRao's Suspicion story mission. His vehicle can drop molotovs, fire with machine guns, and launch a spread of homing missiles.
General Rosetta
General Rosetta is the third Forest Land general to appear in Sand Land in the second half of the main story. Rosetta is ruthless, to the point of being "unrecognizable" to Ann, with whom she has history. Rosetta confronts the team after they procure Aquanium from Merrick Battleship during the Aquanium Recovery story mission.
Lango
Lango is the leader of a small group of rebels in a small Forest Land camp called Trikke. He is one of the first Forest Land denizens Beelzebub and the group meet after crossing the border. He welcomes Beelzebub and company into his group, while also revealing that he recognizes Sheriff Rao from past encounters.
Supreme Commander Bred
Bred is the leader of the Forest Land Army, and the leader of a military coup to overthrow Forest Land's King Jam, who Bred says was under the spell of his wife, Lady Lilith. An imposing figure at first glance, what lies under the mask is even more intimidating.
Muniel
A mysterioud child-like person who is named as the successor to the throne of Forest Land by Supreme Commander Bred. Not much is known about Muniel, only that Bred has taken a liking to them.
