BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ It turns out that Matthew Perry’s death is still under investigation, as law enforcement officials look into the ketamine found in his system. Local police and federal agents are trying to figure out where the actor got the drug before his death in October, says TMZ. Two months after he was found unresponsive in his Los Angeles home’s hot tub, his autopsy report indicated he died at age 54 from the “acute effects of ketamine”. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner also said the case was “closed” at the time.

★ Riley Keough is challenging the “fraudulent” sale of her grandfather Elvis Presley’s iconic Graceland home ahead of a foreclosure auction. A temporary restraining order halting the sale of the Memphis estate was granted, just days before it was set to be auctioned today. Earlier this month, it was revealed the late King of Rock and Roll’s beloved residence would be sold to the highest bidder after previous owner, Lisa Marie Presley, allegedly failed to repay a $3.8 million loan taken out in 2018, before her death. But a lawsuit filed by Keough argues her mother never took out a loan, and the documents are flase.

★ Say aloha to his new girlfriend. Jason Momoa confirmed his relationship with “Hit Man” star Adria Arjona by sharing PDA-filled photos with the actress — 5 months after finalizing his divorce from Lisa Bonet. Momoa posted pics on Monday from his trip to Japan, including one of himself wrapping his arms around Arjona while they dined out with friends. The “Aquaman” actor, who is 44, is seen beaming as he holds the 32-year-old Arjona. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/wu63vpt4

★ “Yellowstone” will be happy to hear some concrete news about the show’s final episodes. On Instagram, Forrie J. Smith, who plays ranch hand ‘Lloyd’, confirmed that shooting has begun on the much-anticipated second half of Season 5 of the Western. In a video clip, Smith said: “Hey, y’all, you know I’m back in Montana, finishing up Yellowstone here. I’m blessed with that.” The second and final installment, which will consist of 6 episodes, is slated to debut on Paramount Network in November. It was delayed in 2023 due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes.

★ Since the moment it was revealed that ‘Deadpool’ was joining the MCU, there’s been one question fans have had top of mind: Will he still be allowed to be “the merc with a mouth?” Well, as it turns out, even Ryan Reynolds was surprised at how much of a “hard R” rating Disney has allowed “Deadpool & Wolverine” to have. Reynolds told Fandango: “I hope it doesn’t sound condescending, I’m really proud of them for doing this. I think it’s a huge step for them.” While pleasantly surprised at the rating, Reynolds said that for his character, “there’s no other way to do it.” The film, set to be Marvel’s first R-rated movie, hits theaters on July 26.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Ed Sheeran, Adele, Harry Styles, and Dua Lipa – are among the 40 richest people in the UK under the age of 40, according to The Sunday Times’ annual Rich List. At #10 on the list, Sheeran is the highest-ranked musician, with an estimated net worth of US $432 million. Styles is #17 ($222 million), followed by Adele at #19, ($216 million), and Lipa, who is ranked #29 with a net worth of $114 million.
• Adele – told the crowd at her “Weekends With Adele” residency that with her commitments there soon ending, she has big plans for the future. Quote: “Once I am done with…all of my shows, I want to have a baby. I want a girl because I’ve already got a boy.” She has gigs scheduled through mid-June, plus 10 fall dates.
• Lenny Kravitz – This Friday, he’ll drop the new album “Blue Electric Light”. He has already released the songs ‘KT421’ and ‘Human’. Kravitz has also announced “Blue Electric Light Las Vegas”, a residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM. Dates so far run Oct. 18-26. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mrx8u3ek
• Jon Bon Jovi – shared his “honest playlist” with The Guardian. Among the highlights: Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Born to Run’ is the song that changed his life, Don’ Henley’s ‘Boys of Summer’ is the song he wishes he’d written, PSY’s ‘Gangnam Style’ is the tune he secretly likes, that he tells people he hates, and “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” by Wham! is the song he wants played at his funeral.
• Neil Young and Crazy Horse — June 28, they will release of “Early Daze”, a collection of mostly previously unreleased tracks from 1969. Already available is ‘Everybody’s Alone’, featuring a different mix than the one on 2009’s “Neil Young – Archives Vol. I.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/dzy8ea35
• Lainey Wilson – When asked what she asks for on her tour rider, her reply was: “throat coat tea…a kettle…Lemon Halls, some cough drops, and probably whiskey and water.” She also joked that she needs “to be a little more bougie”, because some country artist friends “are like, ‘I want some new underwear, I want some new socks, they gotta be 3/4 length, I want purple solo cups, I want just the red Skittles.'”
• Kane Brown and Jason Aldean – have both released the songs they performed at Thursday’s ACM Awards as singles. Brown has dropped a studio version of Ray Charles’ ‘Georgia on My Mind’, while Aldean has made available his actual performance of ‘Should’ve Been a Cowboy’, which he sang in tribute to the late Toby Keith. • Jelly Roll — only wears brand-new socks. In a podcast interview he said that wearing socks just once is “the most frivolous thing” he has done with his success. Quote: “When you’re fat, you can’t have stinky feet too, so you gotta have fresh socks!”

SHOOTING THE BULL

A WAKE-UP CALL ABOUT WAKING UP:
What’s the first thing you do when you awaken in the morning? Check your phone? Grab a quick breakfast? Bad ideas, both. A neuroscientist is warning about the things you should avoid doing, in order to protect your brain. And those include checking your phone as soon as you wake up. Emily McDonald (who posts brain-health advice on Instagram) says her tips can help prevent things like brain fog and forgetfulness. The mindset coach recommends we wait at least 20 minutes after getting up in the morning before reaching for the phone. Why? This is the time that the “brain is transitioning between sleep and waking” … when “our brain is really suggestible”. She cautions that if you read “stressful things” at this time, it prompts “you to be stressed”. And the same rule applies at night. Try to switch off the TV, laptop and phone well ahead of bed. Also, avoid processed food such as cheese slices and chips, which can also have a negative impact on the brain, leading to cognitive aging. Instead, reach for whole foods and good fats, such as avocados and blueberries.
(Well, I was close. Last trip to the supermarket, I came back with a trunk-full of whole fats and good foods!)
(Here’s the problem: If I turned off the TV and my phone an hour before bedtime, I’d just say to myself: “Well, I’ve got nothing else to do…I might as well go to bed!)

TECH TALK:
➢ Soon, you may be able to simply look at a restaurant checkout screen to pay. The novel, biometric technology is becoming increasingly widespread, and one facial ID payment company, PopID, is signing more and more deals across the US to introduce this state-of-the-art tech into eateries. Users simply take a selfie to register, then look at a camera to verify their identity for each transaction. The fast-food chain Steak ‘N Shake is installing the system in 300 locations. Customers take about 3 seconds to check in through PopID – much faster than opening the restaurant’s app and scanning a QR code. (This won’t be anything new to [***afternoon guy***], who’s been dining out on his good looks for years!)
➢ These days, a game is NOT just a game. According to Fandom’s 4th Annual Inside Gaming report, video games are “increasingly seen as a form of personal expression, exploring one’s identity and providing empowerment and confidence in one’s real life.” Creative and world-building focused games like “Minecraft,” “Roblox,” and “Fortnite” lead the charge in helping to tick those boxes. Other findings in Fandom’s survey of 5,000 entertainment and video game fans include:
• 46% of gamers’ top reason for playing is not stress relief, but “creation, imagination, and self-expression”.
• 32% said they want their in-game appearance to more accurately mirror their real physical appearance.
(If I wanted my video game characters to look like me, I’d just go back to playing “Super Mario”!)

THANK YOU, PLEASE:
By the time most kids start school, they already know that “please” is a magic word. But new research is telling us that people actually say “please” much less frequently than you might expect. UCLA sociologists found that when people do say “please”, they’re actually taking advantage of the “power of please” with a very specific social strategy. The researchers analyzed 17 hours of recorded video showing casual, everyday interactions between families, friends, and co-workers. Out of over a thousand requests, people only said “please” 69 times – that’s just 7% of the time. The study determined that people mainly say “please” when they think someone will probably refuse their request. Simply put, in modern society, people break out “please” when they expect a “no.” They’re using a little linguistic trick to try sweetening the deal. And while “please” definitely isn’t the surefire politeness hack that kids would like it to be, the study also found that using the word can definitely help you avoid hearing another “no” from family and friends.
(People only said “please” 7% of the time? Where did they get the video? From the International Society of Rude Dudes?)
(Wow! Who knew? Apparently, politeness can yield rewards!)

DID YOU KNOW?
A survey found that the average person starts feeling “old” at age 47. The survey of US adults also revealed that the average respondent starts to really worry about age-related bodily changes around 50 years old. Perhaps surprisingly, most people said they aren’t nearly as concerned about losing their youthful looks as they’re concerned about the mental decline that can happen with aging. Only one in 4 was concerned about looking unattractive in old age. And 1 in 4 said they ARE worried they’ll lose touch with what’s “hip and cool”, once they’re elderly. (The good news? Once you hit a certain age, it just ain’t cool to try to look hip and cool!)
