Swansea Half Grows

Front Runner City 5 Miler+ added to Swansea Half Marathon programme...

It's Wales' biggest summer running festival and this year will mark the 10th anniversary of the Swansea University Swansea Half Marathon on Sunday 9 June 2024. Our photo star above, Natasha Fuller, looks very happy with her 2:09:57 time for 1,603rd place last year – a strong midfield run among the 2,966 finishers in just over four hours.

Billed as the 'City to the Sea Half Marathon' the race starts outside the 3,500-capacity Swansea Arena in the Maritime Quarter. After a four-mile city loop, runners head to Mumbles on Swansea Bay before returning to finish near the Event Village at Museum Green. Here is a brief video with event highlights...

David Martin-Jewell, founder and managing director of Front Runner Events said: "We are all excited to host the biggest celebration of running our city has ever seen this June, for what will be a decade of this mass participation event for all. The Swansea University Swansea Half Marathon has come a long way since its debut back in 2014. It has been amazing to see the generations of runners coming through, and this year I will be in awe of those taking part who would have been too young to participate when it was first staged.”

Tash Smith, Front Runner Events Race Director, said: “As we gear up to stage our tenth-anniversary event, our team is working extremely hard to ensure that race day will be a day to remember! Whether you’re new to running or keen to start, #RunSwansea is for everyone, so no matter your age or ability there’s an event for you!”

Front Runner Events has added a brand-new City 5 Miler to mark the 10-year milestone. The Front Runner City 5 Miler+ is a tad over five miles and follows the first four miles of the half marathon, then takes runners over and through the iconic Copr Bay Bridge and back to the finish. The half marathon will incorporate a Team Challenge for organisations to go head to head. The 2K Freedom Family Fun Run is now sponsored by Freedom Leisure and every age can enjoy the excitement of race day. Embracing inclusivity, strollers are warmly welcomed, ensuring no barriers to participation, truly making this an event for all.

The current Swansea Half Marathon title holders are Omar Ahmed (Birchfield Harriers, 1:02:53) and Lucy Reid (Tonbridge AC, 1:14:22). Course records are held by Omar Ahmed (1:02:53, 2023) and Welsh-born Natasha Wilson (Micky Morris RC, 1:12:48 in 2022). Previous editions have seen up to 5,000 finishers in front of the Swansea Arena.
