OSHKOSH (WLUK) – A man arrested for allegedly illegally having a gun after shots were fired near a pub crawl pleaded not guilty Thursday.

Lamont Brown, 20, faces five counts, including being a felon in possession of a firearm, drug possession, and bail jumping. He is not charged in connection with the dozen shots fired on an Oshkosh street April 13.

No trial date was set. Brown returns to court June 17 for a status conference, court records show.

Police said the annual, unsanctioned "Pub Crawl" event results in an increase in house parties and pedestrian traffic throughout the area. Several incidents were investigated despite an enlarged law enforcement presence.

At approximately 9:40 p.m., officers responded to "a large physical disturbance" taking place outdoors involving about 100 people. It was reported that gunshots were heard in the immediate area while officers were on scene ear Scott Avenue and Wright Street. Several shell casings were located. No one was injured and no property damage occurred as a result of the shots being fired, police said.

Doorbell video captured what “appears to be an argument starting in the large group. In the video you can hear around 4 shots being fired. There is a pause for a few seconds and then another volley of shots being fired. Officer MacDonald believed he heard around 10- 12 gunshots in quick succession.”

According to the criminal complaint, shortly after the shots were fired, one man approached an officer to say he believed the man responsible for the shooting was in his residence.

The witness told police the man, later identified as Brown, “came into his residence saying he was trying to get away from the shooting (the witness) reported that the male asked him to walk with him to the bathroom. There the male showed (the witness) a black handgun. The male told (him) not to tell anyone about this,” the complaint states.

Police searched the residence, finding a Glock handgun. The weapon did not belong to anyone living there.

“The firearm was found to be loaded with a round in the chamber. A total of 25 live rounds found in the gun itself. The bullets in the firearm can be further described as S&B 9x19 22 hollow point bullets,” the complaint states.

Brown has a previous conviction for a theft case.

Police say they responded to approximately 100 calls for service in the areas of the Pub Crawl event. 48 citations were written -- including three for underage consumption/possession of alcohol and 39 for open intoxicants.
