In a release, the Summerville Police Department said, "We hope that bringing these suspects to Justice will help bring some closer to the Brown family."

On April 13 the Charleston County Sheriff's Office responded to a car fire on Koester Road. They found Brown's body in the car after extinguishing the flames. It was determined he had been shot to death in the Summerville Police jurisdiction.

Brown's autopsy showed two bullets inside his thoracic cavity and no smoke damage in his lungs, indicating he was dead before he was set on fire, deputies said.

Steplight was seen on video purchasing gasoline and pumping it into a gas can before following Brown's vehicle to the crime scene, according to the sheriff's office.

Prosecutors said Vaughn told his co-defendants he fired the shots that killed Brown then drove the car to Ladson where it was later found.
