Today marks a significant milestone in sports history on Prince Edward Island (PEI) as the 2023 Canada Games Host Society proudly announces the inauguration of the 2023 Canada Games Legacy Fund.

As defined in the 2023 Canada Games Legacy Plan, and in accordance with the Host Society's Island-wide mandate, this surplus will enhance sports funding across PEI. “Thanks to the efforts and support of host society staff, many volunteers, sponsors, funding partners, and strong financial management, the Host Society will have a financial surplus of approximately $5.5 million dollars,” says 2023 Canada Games Chair Wayne Carew.

Honourable Dennis King, Premier of PEI, expressed his enthusiasm by stating, "This is an exciting day for sports on our Island. The 2023 Canada Games were an exhilarating experience that left a lasting mark on our province. The energy of the athletes, the roar of the crowds, and the spirit of competition made the Games truly unforgettable. The Legacy Fund will continue to influence sport and our communities for years to come”.

The 2023 Canada Games Legacy Fund's primary objective is to enhance the legacies of past Games in a way that benefits sports throughout PEI. This fund has been designed to complement the outstanding outcomes of the 2009 Canada Games Dreams and Champions Program, ensuring a comprehensive and holistic approach to fostering sporting excellence across the province.

“This initiative signals a new chapter in the legacy of the 2023 Canada Games, poised to leave a meaningful impact on PEI's sporting landscape and spark greatness in Islanders for generations to come,” said Canada Games Council Chair, Evan Johnston.

General Eligibility Requirements:
– Applicants must be either incorporated municipalities or duly constituted not-for-profit local, regional, or provincial sports organizations based in the Province of Prince Edward Island.
– Applications from individual coaches, officials, or athletes will not be considered.
