TVLINE | I remember speaking with Tim Minear about Shannon’s appearance in the premiere. He said he’d take any excuse to bring back Devin Kelley, and I had no idea just how far he would take that.
[Laughs] Yeah, he took it really far this time. All of us were a little shocked, and we were like, “How does this make sense? Make this make sense, please.” And he did!
TVLINE | It took me a minute to recognize Devin with the blonde hair. Did she feel like a different character to you?
I mean, I hadn’t seen Devon in forever, even in passing that one time while she played the ghost of Shannon. But the hair was definitely different. I just love that woman so much. She’s such an incredible actress, and playing opposite of her is a breath of fresh air, so I was super happy to see her.
TVLINE | You probably figured you’d never work again after they killed her off.
Yes, and I was so angry. That was three or four seasons of me asking all the writers, “Why did you do that? Can you bring her back?” And now here we are.
Damnit. I was hoping that they would pull an Izzy from Grey’s and Eddie was ill and hallucinating all of this 😫 I get that no one really likes Marisol (not even Eddie) but cheating with the doppelgänger of your dead ex with whom you had a dysfunctional relationship is unhinged…and it is most certainly not the optimal way to make a character interesting or grow?! Really, what’s the goal here? I feel like whenever they don’t know what to do with Eddie’s love life, they bring up Shannon, and I’m pretty over it.
This is genuinely the stupidest decision 911 has ever made. It’s soap opera in the worst way, rather than the fun way. Eddie has been getting character assasinated all over the place all season because Tim Minear clearly has no idea what to write for him except for the 3746237846th iteration of “wah wah he’s still not over Shannon”. Some absolutely atrocious storytelling choices this season. I thought things couldn’t be worse than season 6, well, guess they took it on themselves to prove me wrong. Genuinely sad to see 911 get to the point where I don’t even want to watch week to week anymore.
Wow. Not sure what I feel but Devin is such a breath of fresh air again vs that clinging giggling 6 year old Edy. In RL and in this show she’s the same – wrong for the whole show. I guess keeping Devin around would be tough but hope this is the boot for Marinun!!
I would not put it past them to make poor Christopher have his dead mom’s doppelgänger become his stepmom, so maybe you’ll get your wish 💀 I didn’t think that I could hate a story more than some of the things from seasons five and six but here we are. I want to see what happens with Bobby and Amir next week but this really upset me.
This doesn’t seem like a good storyline. I agree with another commenter, this is very daytime soap opera feel. I get maybe having Eddie cheat for a storyline.. but, this is a bit ridiculous. Truthfully, I would have liked to see him get back with Christopher’s teacher.
This is when I turn to fan fiction, because a lot of it is better than what they’re currently writing for Eddie. I get the need to show another side to him, but this is just so Melrose Place.
I was critical of Kristin Reidel but she actually gave Eddie a good story in in s5. Marisol should have been gone yesterday and don’t even get me started on the actress but this is absolute garbage of Eddie. I’m team brain tumor/encephalitis because it’s a better alternative at this point.
I love how Eddie fans are begging for him to have a freaking brain tumor. Meanwhile Buck fans are concocting theories about lasagna. It’s bad out here!
I must be the only one who didn’t realized it was the same actress who played Shannon. Brilliant performance, they struck as two different people. About the stotyline itself, Eddie always felt too young to marry to understand what he was doing, but he was married for such a short time we actually don’t know if he’s a cheater, so I’m eager to find out
Why does 9-1-1 keep giving Eddie these horrific storylines? 😬 Last season he barely had one and the one they finally gave him in the latter half of it was all about him being pushed by his aunt to start dating again. He said he wasn’t ready but what did they do, they pushed him into a relationship with Marisol because he was trying to rekindle something he had when he was literally a teenager. He met Shannon when he was 14 and they reconnected at 18 but truthfully, there’s no way for him as a grown man to find that again and someone should tell him that. He sees his relationship with Shannon through rose colored glasses but he needs a serious reality check because their relationship wasn’t good. It was toxic and all they did was argue. Eddie needs help, like mental help so he’ll STOP trying to replace his dead wife. We’ve seen this story before with Ana and that was two years ago. Now he’s dating Marisol (even though he doesn’t want to be) but he’s pursuing some woman who’s the doppelganger version of Shannon and this is NOT good TV. It’s twisted on so many levels and it’s bad last minute writing for his character. #FreeEddieDiaz

Eddie was supposed to be the one who dated Tommy this season but it was switched to Buck and now they don’t know what to do with Eddie other than resurrect Shannon for the hundredth time. This is tiring because it’s been six years which means it’s time to let Shannon rest in peace. Also, why does Eddie think it’s a good idea to do this? Is he just going to introduce this whack version of her to Chris? Hopefully not because he’s been traumatized enough? There were thousands of ways the show could have taken his journey this season but just like always, they do a reheated version of his leftover season 2 storyline and put a trifling lazy spin on it instead of writing something good. The truth is it’s not good, it’s not fun and it’s not unique. It’s horrible!

It would be nice if just once Eddie was given the type of storyline he deserves. I don’t know maybe one that includes THERAPY for him and Chris so they can finally move on from Shannon once and for all!
“Eddie was supposed to be the one who dated Tommy this season but it was switched to Buck…”
.
Please cite your sources.
This site won’t let me insert the link to the article (I’ve tried twice) but here’s a direct quote from Lou Ferigno, Jr.
“It was originally, possibly going to be with Eddie and Tommy, but that fell through.”
The article was posted on April 12th among the 10 or so others but it’s not a TV Line article which could be why I can’t link it.
I’m pretty sure I read the same thing in a Lou Ferrigno Jr article from the past few weeks. I’m not sure if LFJ gave away too much info in the interview, but I got the impression that Ryan Guzman was reluctant to play Eddie as Bi. So they turned to Oliver Stark, who didn’t mind at all being pared with LFJ.
Leigh, you are incorrect and misinformed. RG (the actor who plays “Eddie”) named the “Buddie” ship in 2018 during a Twitter conversation with OS (the actor who plays Buck). The misinformation you’re sharing is just flat out wrong and biased and it’s just like it is when other viewers do it. You all keep pushing a negative narrative regarding RG by saying he’s against Buddie because the truth is, he isn’t! Also, he knows and understands the character of Eddie better than anyone else (his words from several interviews). Him and OS are the biggest supporters of Buddie and they have been since the beginning.
—
It’s really interesting how people listen to the misinformation then read into stuff regarding him specifically, without having or knowing the facts. I read the entire interview and not once did it say RG didn’t want to do it or that he was against it. So, I’m going to take brief moment to inform you so you’ll have the correct information going forward regarding this situation.
—
Below is a condensed version of facts and it’s all based on things TM said during his pre-season and beginning of season 7 interviews.
TM, the showrunner, explained had a plan for Natalia and Buck to break up early in the season but the actress got a job in NY and she amicably parted ways with them. Since he didn’t want both Buck and Eddie to have off screen breakups, he changed their storylines and brought the actress back who plays Marisol for Eddie and switched the coming out arc to Buck.
—
If I could post a screenshot of the Twitter post between RG and OS I would that proves what I’m saying is true but the gist of it is OS suggested they name it “Beddie” but RG said “If we’re naming this ship anything it’s Buddie” and OS agreed. Although it’s unclear where you got that impression about RG but it’s incorrect. Now you’ve been informed of the facts.
I just loved how Ryan understands Eddie and what makes for good drama TV.
I actually like this storyline, it gets rid of Marisol and because dating a woman because she looks like your dead ex isn’t a good basis for a relationship it won’t last either. So Eddie will finally be free for Buck.
Just started watching 911, so have a question as a new watcher. Do they normally have such a disconnect between episodes?
.
Last episode was the wedding episode and it seems like it never happened. Chimmy (SP?) never had memory issues or was hospitalized, him and JLH’s character never got married (although I did notice she had a ring on he left finger), nobody asked Buck about him and Tommy (although I’m not saying that it has to be talk of the town).
.
Or maybe there was an episode in between that never showed? Is this normally how things go on this show?
That’s normal for 911. As about the wedding, Chimney even called himself “husband” to Maddie.
I think Amir is someone from Bobby’s past in that apartment fire he had to do with. Looking at his face being burned on one side….that’s my theory!
The preview for next week confirms this is true.
Destroying a character doesn’t bring fans in, it sends old ones out the door. The younger crowd wants everything destroyed and everybody has to be wierd, or finding themselves, or needing mental health counselling.
News flash. It’s not that crowd that’s been watching your show for years. This was the only emergency show I watched . The kind of action I loved has now been erased and Action in the bedroom, at work, in the washroom, or even in an alley, has taken its place. Maybe have some of them do it in costumes too cause not all the younger generation identify as human. I even read about one who identified as a cat and sits in a kitty box at the back of the room at school. Don’t leave that one out.
It is true that I was angry while watching the show yesterday, but after re-watching the episode, I think I tried to understand Tim’s point of view on Eddie. Throughout these years, Eddie feels that he has failed his family, and his wife died in front of him, and she asked for a divorce before that. He feels guilty, and is trying to find a mother for Chris. But every time he fails because all those women remind him of his failure towards Shannon.
Then he sees Kim, wow she looks like Shannon, I’m going to take this chance, to right my wrongs, yes I cheat, but this is my chance, everything around him will explode as soon as his girlfriend, or even buck, finds out, and Eddie will realize yes I did something wrong, because I’m just a broken-down boy. And I need help, and I hope it leads him to realize that he loves Buck, because he dated beautiful and memorable women, and he was not attracted to them because Eddie is not your type.
I liked this storyline the first time I saw it…when it was called “Vertigo.”
I’m so thrilled they are going to get rid of Marisol. I don’t like her. I don’t even like to look at her. She was never right for Eddie. Maybe this new storyline will be that Shannon had a twin sister who was given up at birth because the mother couldn’t take care of twins. Of course this will confuse the heck out of Christopher. Others are upset that Eddie cheats but we all have made mistakes in our lives. Eddie has to reconcile his past or he can never move on. Buck and Tommy are good for now. I never want to see Buck and Eddie together, it would ruin the show in my opinion. They work together and are like brothers who always have each other’s backs which is perfect . The storyline for Bobby has me really nervous with bringing up his past with this new character. I pray that Bobby doesn’t go back to drinking because of it. That would be horrible. I just love this show.
