Highlights

  • Batman: Arkham Shadow was revealed earlier this week as the next game in the Arkhamverse.
  • Roger Craig Smith, the actor who voiced Batman in Arkham Origins, seems to be teasing his involvement in the game.
  • This makes sense considering the tragic loss of Kevin Conroy in late 2022, as it's unlikely he managed to record lines for Shadow.

The voice actor for Batman in Arkham Origins, Roger Craig Smith, has hinted that he's returning to the role for the recently revealed Batman: Arkham Shadow.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League might not have been the continuation that Batman: Arkham fans were hoping for (with many completely writing it off for how it handled the character, despite that reportedly being a red herring), but there's an unlikely beacon on the horizon - Batman: Arkham Shadow, a new VR game that's exclusive to Meta Quest and was revealed just a few days ago.

Real Ones Know Batman Dies In All The Best Stories
If you love Batman, you probably love a story about Batman dying already.

We don't know all that much about Batman: Arkham Shadow right now, aside from the fact that it hints at appearances from Two-Face, Harley Quinn, and Ratcatcher, but we do know that it'll appear at Summer Game Fest next month. Although it hasn't been outright confirmed yet, there's something even more exciting about Arkham Shadow than seeing Batman's origins - the return of a beloved voice actor.

Roger Craig Smith Seems To Be Teasing His Return As Batman

As spotted by Twitter user thedcbattinson, Roger Craig Smith, the actor behind Batman in Arkham Origins, shared a screenshot of the logo for Arkham Shadow logo on his Instagram, seemingly teasing that he's involved with the project. Although Smith's post on Instagram doesn't outright confirm that he's voicing Batman in the project, it does seem to be what he's hinting at.

It also makes a lot of sense considering Kevin Conroy, the iconic actor behind Batman in the Rocksteady Arkham Trilogy, Batman: The Animated Series, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, and countless other projects, tragically passed away at the age of 66 in late 2022. Conroy seems to have recorded some more dialogue for Kill the Justice League, but it seems unlikely he was also involved with Arkham Shadow.

If the name Roger Craig Smith is ringing a non-Batman bell for you, then you almost definitely know him as the current voice of Sonic the Hedgehog. That's right - Sonic and Batman. What a legend.

That's not been outright confirmed yet, but considering Roger Craig Smith's performance as Batman in Arkham Origins was largely praised and considered a great compliment to Conroy's performance, the Instagram tease is probably teasing that the actor is making a comeback for Arkham Shadow. Smith was fantastic as Batman, so it's great to see him getting another chance like this.
