'Visited gay clubs': Suchitra stokes controversy with allegations against Shah Rukh, Karan Johar

Singer Suchitra has ignited a fresh controversy by levelling allegations against Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan and director-producer Karan Johar. Days after accusing several celebrities, including Kamal Haasan, Suchitra now claims that her ex-husband Karthik Kumar met Khan and Johar in London, where they allegedly cross-dressed and visited gay clubs.

Suchitra, known for her career as a singer and radio jockey, first caused a stir in Tamil cinema in 2017 when private pictures and videos of celebrities were leaked from her Twitter account under the hashtag #SuchiLeaks. At the time, her ex-husband Karthik Kumar claimed her account had been hacked and that she was under mental stress. Recently, Suchitra refuted these claims, alleging that Karthik used her as a scapegoat and citing his homosexuality as a reason for their divorce. She also accused actors Dhanush and Karthik of orchestrating the leak.

In an interview, Suchitra said, “My ex-husband Karthik Kumar and Dhanush became friends after the film ‘Yaaradi Nee Mohini’. They claimed they would change the world. Dhanush, my ex-husband, Andrea, and photographer Ramu were in that group. I was not. The group discussed international cinema, and Suchi Leaks was a prank that originated from them.

“One day at three in the morning, Karthik came home with shaking legs and said a prank in that group had gotten out of hand. They knowingly leaked all those photos. They needed a Twitter account to post them on, and my husband made me the scapegoat. After a year, Karthik admitted everything to me in tears. I asked for a divorce immediately and returned to my house. None of the actresses involved in Suchi Leaks filed a complaint.

“Dhanush and Karthik Kumar continue to defame me because of Suchi Leaks. Karthik is gay, and I found out after many years of marriage. He doesn’t have the courage to come out. I discovered it within eight years of marriage. He had two boyfriends, and they would stay in a hotel room together. One day, I saw a photo on his iPad. He is 100% gay. He lived a different life without letting anyone know.”

Suchitra added, “What Karthik and Dhanush did to me is unforgivable. Neither the legal system nor my family and friends can help me, but God will hold them accountable. Dhanush's family is torn apart. Greater things are yet to come. I have cried so much.”

In response, Karthik denied Suchitra’s claims, stating, “Even if I were gay, I wouldn’t be ashamed of it. I will participate in the pride rally in my city in June. There is nothing to be ashamed of; instead, I would be proud.”

Karthik Kumar has filed a defamation case against Suchitra. His lawyer stated that Suchitra is making false allegations to portray him and his friends in a bad light.
