Athulya had been receiving treatment for fever at Peermade Taluk Hospital for a week. After visiting the doctor on Friday, she returned home but was rushed back to the hospital later in the evening due to a high fever. Sadly, she succumbed to her illness at 3 AM on Saturday.

There is suspicion that dengue fever may have been the cause of her demise. Following an inquest, the child's body was shifted to Idukki Medical College Hospital for a postmortem examination.
