Wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma will lead Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their final game of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday. Shikhar Dhawan was PBKS’ original captain but a shoulder injury for the 38 year-old meant that he would eventually miss the rest of the season.
England’s Sam Curran was then named PBKS skipper but the 25 year-old has returned to his country for international duty ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup that starts from 1 June.
Jitesh had been named vice-captain of Punjab Kings ahead of the 2024 season. PBKS, however, have been eliminated from the IPL and are currently in ninth place with 10 points from 13 games.
Jitesh, however, has not had a productive IPL season with the bat, scoring just 155 runs from 13 matches at an average of 14.09 and a strike-rate of 122.05.
