ASIL International Criminal Law Interest Group Works-in-Progress Conference: The ASIL International Criminal Law Interest Group will be holding its annual Works-in-Progress Conference in person on Monday, June 24, 2024 at Boston University School of Law in Boston, Massachusetts.  Submissions at various stages of development on any topic related to international criminal law broadly construed (including transnational criminal law) are welcome.  We also welcome indication of interest from those interested in commenting on papers.

Prospective participants should fill out this form by May 20, 2024.  Decisions will be made shortly thereafter.  Drafts will due approximately two weeks before the conference. Full Scholarship for LLM in International Human Rights Law and Practice: The University of York’s Centre for Applied Human Rights and the Sam Pegram Humanitarian Foundation are excited to announce the Sam Pegram Scholarship. This full LLM scholarship includes tuition, accommodation, travel, and a living stipend for one international student to pursue an LLM in International Human Rights Law and Practice, offered by the University of York.

The Sam Pegram Scholarship is in memory of Sam Pegram, a caring, kind and talented young man who tragically died in 2019. Sam was an alumnus of the LLM. Through this scholarship, others will have the opportunity to study on this course and make a positive difference for the rights of people on the move and human rights more generally.For eligibility and application details, click here.

Launch of Evaluating Digital Open Source Imagery: A Guide for Judges and Fact-Finders: This guide is intended to assist judges and other decision makers in their assessment of open source photographs and videos, by explaining some of the most common open source investigative techniques. Speakers will include Lord Justice Birss, Judge of the Court of Appeal of England and Wales and Deputy Head of Civil Justice, Her Excellency Judge Joanna Korner, Judge of the International Criminal Court, Dr Daragh Murray, Queen Mary University of London, and Professor Yvonne McDermott Rees, Swansea University. The launch will take place on Friday 24 May 2024 from 3:30-5:00pm BST at the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple in London. Please register here.

Children’s Rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and Israel – Voices from the UN Human Rights System: On 23 May 2024, 17:15 – 18:15 (BST), the University of Nottingham Human Rights Law Centre will be hosting two leading UN experts to address the urgent and evolving child rights crisis in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and Israel: Ann Skelton (Chairperson, UN Committee on the Rights of the Child) and Farida Shaheed (UN Special Rapporteur on the right to education). Both the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child and the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to education have engaged extensively with the child rights issues raised by the Israel-Palestine conflict. This seminar is a unique opportunity to get their perspectives on the challenges and potential solutions in terms of children’s rights. The discussion will be moderated by Aoife Nolan (Professor of International Human Rights Law and Director of the Human Rights Law Centre). The event will be streamed online. Full details and free registration are available here.
