Plenty of good choices, but another vote for "Jet".

Really not a good year for track 2s. Many albums I checked had a fantastic track 3, but meh 2.

I always think of "The Real Me" as the first song on Quad. "I Am the Sea" just doesn't compute as a separate track. Similarly with DSOTM, track 2 always feels like "On the Run" to me.

    "The Rain Song" it is!

Honorable mention: "If you Want Me to Stay" off of Sly and the Family Stone's Fresh

A very strong side one, side two…
IMO only two good ones: Six ‘O Clock & For you and me Babe.

t think Goodnight Vienna is more consistent as a whole but it has nothing as strong as the first 4 songs on Ringo.

    1973 was a good year.

Excellent contributions from the crew here.

And it took a few years to digest everything released in 1973!

I will buy you a drink and happily debate the topic until the we hours.

  16. Dunno. Maybe "Beauty Queen" from Roxy Music's For Your Pleasure, or "What Ruthy Said" from Cockney Rebel's The Human Menagerie, or "The Sad Skinhead" from Faust IV.

Probably "Lady Day" from Lou Reed's Berlin.

Great track and hommage but wasn’t this one released in 1972 from the Maxoom album?

Another pick for 'Aladdin Sane', although I also really like 'Rapids' on T.Rex's Tanx album.

Many of my favorites have already been mentioned, but I'll throw Our Lady Of The Well from Jackson Browne's For Everyman and Twenty-One from the Eagles' Desperado onto the pile.
