Harley flew high and Daics drilled a ripper.

From the moment we knew Collingwood and West Coast would play this game on Mother’s Day, everyone looked forward to having Harley Reid and Nick Daicos on the same field.

The prodigious talents will give footy fans plenty of joy in the coming years and every clash with them on the field together should be one to savour.

They both started in the centre square but weren’t direct opponents. That match up would come later. The question was who would provide the big highlight first.

The answer to that question was Nick Daicos. He won the centre clearance after Jeremy Howe kicked a goal for the Magpies, surged forward and booted a goal from just outside the 50m arc to give the Maggies a 12-point lead.

It was stereotypical Daicos with explosive speed and skill showing out.

Now we all hoped for a Reid highlight too. He tried to shake off multiple Collingwood players after winning the ball in the centre square but was gang-tackled and gave up a free kick for holding the ball.

That didn’t deter him though. He just waited for the right moment. And that moment came later in the quarter.

Reid’s ability to take a high mark has already been on show this season and he took a soaring grab over Billy Frampton and Jack Darling with about six minutes left in the quarter.

It was a combination of power, grace and skill as Reid showed he’s just as good in the air as he is on the ground.

By quarter time, Daicos had nine possessions, two clearances and one goal to lift his team to a 21-point lead. But Reid was also prominent with seven disposals, one clearance and his great grab.

All eyes will be on what the pair can do from here.

West Coast were dealt an early injury blow with Jack Petrucelle subbed out at quarter time with a right ankle injury while Collingwood lost Jeremy Howe to a groin issue.
