Anne Marie Duff (who played Fiona in the UK version) would've made such a good Monica

I loved her performance on Shameless UK and Sex Education. In this last show she plays a character that resembles Monica a lot (a recovering addict with personality disorders and terrible partners) and seeing how well she can portray a hot mess of a mother made me believe she would've been a great casting choice for Monica in the US Shameless. I think she looks a lot like Emmy/ Fiona and she reminds me of Jeremy/ Lip a bit, and I reckon she would have great chemistry with Bill Macy. That would've been such a great tribute to the original show, to include one of the actors from it in the reboot. Chloe Webb's performance as Monica was amazing, but would have you liked to see Anne Marie Duff as Monica in Shameless US? Share your thoughts!

Hahaha the two Fiona’s together at the same time? Yes 🙌I agree that it will also honor the original UK version somehow!

I feel like they haven't acknowledged the UK version enough in the US Shameless. They should've at least made a cameo or a few references, since the two shows don't take place in the same universe. Some shows (like Skins) mention their actors' past roles and movies in the show to honor the cast.

Sure, but I've also loved that Monica is literally played by the person who played Nancy in Sid & Nancy.

I love the actor of Monica but this lady does have a convincing face for U.S. Fiona’s mom

If you look at pictures of her when she was in Shameless UK, you will see blonde Emmy

Beside the point but did some google searching and didn’t realize James McAvoy plays JimmySteve?? Maybe I’ll watch the UK version

I honestly only watched the UK version for Elliot Tittensor and James McAvoy

She does have those crazy eyes and looks like she could play a wrinkled, worn before her time addict who ruined her body through years of excessive drinking and drug usage

Honestly it's not really about the looks but Erin (the role she played in Sex Education) reminded me of Monica so much I thought she would've made the US Shameless unique

Is the UK version worth it??

It is worth it when you watch it without comparing it to the US version. They're both relatable and nice shows but they are very different and treat different storylines (the UK version has rawer storylines in my opinion). So, you have to watch it without expecting too much from it and it will eventually become enjoyable

No. The U.S. Monica actress was perfect. I would 100% believe that she is an annoying silly bipolar drug addict irl.

I agree, Chloe Webb is perfect as Monica. But Anne Marie Duff would have a different charm.

I love the Monica in the Uk series so much she’s soooo insufferable and hard to empathize with. Plus US Monica is BUSTED 😅

It would’ve been really cool to see someone from the UK show in the US and yea the UK Fiona’s actor is amazing and it would’ve been really interesting to see her work as an American character.

fr imo there rly should’ve been an episode where US Frank ends up meeting UK Frank and they get into an argument or something, then they find out that their names are both Frank Gallagher 😂

I think that would've worked out with the fact that the Gallaghers have Irish roots, since this actress is literally British she could easily fake a slight Irish accent and no one would notice

And today I learned there is a uk version of shameless.

The UK version is actually the original one, which originates the Shameless we all know. Even though the shows have the same storyline for the first season they go their own different ways by season 2

The UK series follows raw storylines that don't always come to an end, and some of them would never work out in the US version (Mickey and Carl apparently have a fling, Karen and Frank actually date for a while until Sheila gets pregnant with Frank's twins, Fiona returns in the finale)

Damn

it wouldve been nice and make her british as well who moved to america to become a broadway actress but was very unlucky to achieve it and so she just moved to chicago and started doing drugs & alcohol then she met frank

They should've made her Irish, since Frank always complains about the Gallaghers being Irish

The way the UK Monica had me rolling at times- the actress is great, but to me she came off as more silly over the top dramatic while US Monica had a darker side.
