Britain hails Manoah Esipisu as he exits UK role

Manoah Esipisu has bid adieu to his role as the Kenyan High Commissioner to the United Kingdom after an illustrious six-year tenure.

A distinguished alumnus of the University of Nairobi School of Journalism, Esipisu previously served as the Secretary of Communication, State House Spokesperson, and Head of the Presidential Strategic Communication Unit (PSCU) before assuming his diplomatic role.

The British High Commission in Kenya lauded Esipisu as a pivotal figure in fortifying the Kenya-UK relationship, describing him as a valued friend.

"You have been a great friend of the UK, Esipisu! The enduring strength of the UK-Kenya relationship is a testament to your invaluable contributions," the British High Commission remarked in a statement.

Expressing his gratitude, Esipisu bid farewell to Portland Place in London, acknowledging the collaborative efforts of his dedicated team. He also extended appreciation to President William Ruto for entrusting him with the position.

"Today I bid farewell to the famous No. 45 Portland Place London. Great staff. Great moments. A fine Innings. Thanks to HE President William Ruto for retaining me in post and grateful for the opportunity to serve Government in diplomacy & communication," Esipisu said in a post on his X account.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta initially appointed Esipisu to the role, succeeding Lazarus Ombai Amayo.

In a noteworthy achievement, Esipisu was honoured as the Diplomat of the Year from Africa for 2024 by The Diplomat London in April.

The prestigious London Diplomat Awards, hosted by Diplomat Magazine, recognized Esipisu's exceptional diplomatic endeavours on a global scale.

Presented by Chester King of the International Hospitals Group, Esipisu's award ceremony was attended by diplomats worldwide.

Kenya's mission to the UK celebrated Esipisu's outstanding service, acknowledging his commitment to excellence during his tenure in London.

As Esipisu steps down, Catherine Kirumba Karemu, appointed by Ruto, assumes the esteemed position. Karemu's nomination received parliamentary approval on April 17, paving the way for her appointment and marking a new chapter in Kenya's diplomatic representation in London.
