... and I am missing the new sounds

Where's Dido's new album? Will it reach top 100 in your list at least?

I'm not charting until release (i held off MBV until now because it wasn't an official physical release). I doubt it will make top ten, put it that way. She really is a one-hit wonder. (actually haven't heard any post No Angel albums - i bought the later singles from second album but the big hits put me off. So come the week of the new album EDIT: NEXT WEEK!, i'll catch up and Life For Rent may well chart higher than Girl Who Got Away!)

Phildel is great. Will have to check those new entries! Hoping for Nick Cave charting.

1 NEW Plumb - Beautiful History (Ian Nieman Remix) Soundcloud AUDIO/ Spotify AUDIO
I was expecting a slew of Plumb tracks this week in the wake of the new album but didn't think a remix of an old track would be topping! This was part of a mix set released last year with Need You Now. It was through listening to the new album on Spotify that i listened to this. This song has SEVEN mixes in the set despite not being the "a side"! So it may as well get its own separate listing! Another old song gets mixed up a bit futher down.

2 NEW Caitlin Rose - Only A Clown VIDEO

Alt-country singer. Potentially huge seller. See album chart.

            3 2 Phildel - Storm Song VIDEO (3 weeks; peak #1)
Turned up this week on Decca's pop/ classical compilation I'll Stand By You so a few unsuspecting people will have been won over!
            4 1 Cher - The Fall (Kurt's Blues) (2 weeks; peak #1)
5 3 Phildel - The Disappearance Of The Girl (3 weeks; peak #2)
6 RE Plumb - Need You Now (How Many Times?) OFFICIAL LIVE VIDEO (7 weeks; PEAK)
7 NEW Plumb - Always (Soul Seekerz mixes) Extended Mix AUDIO
Yes, a random song from her lullaby album Blink got mixed up last year, too! Always love the NRG-pop of Soul Seekerz!

8 9 Autre Ne Veut - Play By Play (4 weeks; peak #7)
9 NEW Martin Smith - Back To The Start (God's Great Dance Floor) VIDEO
Originally two different songs on his set of self-released EP's last year, and co-written with Chris Tomlin who released his version of GGDF on his US #1 album Burning Lights.

35 NEW Army Of The Universe with Chibi - Until The End VIDEO/ Remix AUDIO
Italian industrial band featuring NIN's Chris Vrenna. This new single has The Birthday Massacre's singer on guest vocals, with the remix her vocal only.

40 RE Post War Years - The Bell (6 weeks; peak #34)
            41 29 Sneaky Sound System - We Love (3 weeks; peak #29)
42 25 Disclosure with AlunaGeorge - White Noise VIDEO (5 weeks; peak #7)
43 NEW Rodriguez - Sugar Man 2009 LIVE VIDEO/ 1970 AUDIO (official upload)
I would think Bill knows of Rodriguez. A documentary film about him won BAFTAs and Oscars recently. I've not seen the film but it's an amazing story of a "secret superstar" who ought to be as recognised as Dylan because in South Africa and Australia he IS! When i see the film, i'll listen to the two albums and soundtrack.

44 NEW Mychael Danna with Bombay Jayashri - Pi's Lullaby FAN VIDEO (uses film clips)
Now i love the film Life Of Pi but the music wasn't what hit me. Since this got an Oscar nom and the score won also, i finally listened to the album.

            45 27 Phildel - Mistakes (3 weeks; peak #27)
46 28 Vassy - We Are Young (Dave Aude Remix) (6 weeks; peak #12)
            47 33 Goat - Goathead (9 weeks; peak #4)
48 NEW Melody's Echo Chamber - Crystallized VIDEO
49 NEW Tom Odell - Hold Me VIDEO
Nick Cave-ish stormer, far better than the wet over-rated tripe i've heard from him before.

50 RE Plumb with Dan Haseltine - Drifting (14 weeks; peak #12)
51 NEW Army Of The Universe - Lovedead VIDEO
            52 38 Yelle - L'Amour Parfait (4 weeks; peak #13)
            53 RE Hurts - Miracle VIDEO (V.2) (6 weeks; peak #36)
Video has been reshot, with less female buttocks, more darkness and blood. It's better but hardly Miracle's Good Love, though.

54 RE Ultraista - Bad Insect (2 weeks; peak #23)
55 RE Ultraista - Our Song (5 weeks; peak #29)
            56 RE Miss 600 - Twist (7 weeks; peak #10)
            57 RE Miss 600 - Dance With You (10 weeks; peak #17)
58 RE Post War Years - Glass House (13 weeks; peak #10)
            59 40 Churches - Recover (4 weeks; peak #11)
            60 41 Fun. - Why Am I The One? (9 weeks; peak #5)
            61 37 Pulp - After You (9 weeks; peak #4)
62 34 ColeCo with Aaliyah - Rock The Boat (3 weeks; peak #31)
            63 45 Haim - Falling (3 weeks; peak #41)
            64 RE Miss 600 - Missing You (5 weeks; peak #23)
65 NEW Red - Perfect Life VIDEO
            66 21 Van She - Jamaica (15 weeks; peak #17)
            67 RE Miss 600 - Typically Me (6 weeks; peak #44)
            68 51 Miss 600 - Hello (3 weeks; peak #51)
            69 30 Van She - Kelly (15 weeks; peak #16)
            70 31 Van She - Sarah (2 weeks; peak #31)
            71 44 Serebro - Gun/ Malchik (13 weeks; peak #18)

              ALBUM CHART

1 NEW Plumb - Need You Now

              ALBUM STREAM
Highlights: Say Your Name, Unlovable, Need You Now (How Many Times?), I Want You Here, I Don't Deserve You (solo)
Try and listen to Unlovable without crying (inspired by a gay friend and his experience with fellow Christians).
The sheer emotive power of Tiffany's voice and lyrics hit you again. Chocolate and Ice Cream is horrendous perky skippy music that i can't stand, though (see Mraz, Train).

              2 NEW Caitlin Rose - The Stand-In

              ALBUM STREAM
Everywhere I Go, No One To Call, Menagerie, Only A Clown
25 year-old indie country girl from US giving her second album a UK release a week before the States. This is a delightful album drawing comparisons to Loretta Lynn and Fleetwood Mac.

3 NEW Autre Ne Veut - Anxiety

              ALBUM STREAM
Gonna Die, Play By Play, Don't Ever Look Back
Prince after suffering severe sex deprivation. Having a touch of the Reznors.

              4 NEW Kavinsky - Outrun

              ALBUM STREAM
Grand Canyon, Blizzard, Nightcall (with Lovefoxxx)
The mythical story of a car/ human super-being soundtracked by a French keyboard wizard obsessed with the eighties.

5 NEW John Foxx and The Maths - Evidence

              ALBUM STREAM
Evidence, Changelings (with Gazelle Twin), A Falling Star (with Gazelle Twin)
An actual eighties keyboard wizard and his second set of experiments with producer Benge.

6 1 Sneaky Sound System - From Here To Anywhere (3 weeks; peak #1)
7 NEW Hillsong United - Zion

              ALBUM STREAM
              Relentless, Love Is War, Zion
Not as good as Aftermath but it's topping iTunes in US, Canada, Aus, NZ and even top 30 UK!

8 NEW Various Artists - A Concert For Kirsty MacColl

              ALBUM STREAM
Soho Square (by Ellie Goulding), In These Shoes? (by Catherine Tate), Tread Lightly (by Amy Macdonald)
2010 set newly released. Also features Alison Moyet, Billy Bragg, Andrea Corr among others.

              9 2 Tegan and Sara - Heartthrob (3 weeks; peak #2)
10 NEW My Bloody Valentine - MBV

              ALBUM STREAM
In Another Way, She Found Now, New You
i was thinking this would get an official wide release but it's only available via their site (physicals shipping now). I've not actually heard Loveless all the way through yet (adored Soon the single - was up and down with other songs).
New You is surprisingly uncluttered and commercial for them! Nothing Is is just taking the p*ss - literally a stuck guitar riff for 4 minutes!

11 NEW Post War Years - Galapagos

              ALBUM STREAM
Glass House, All Eyes, The Bell, God
Better than Foals - bizarrely no media fuss at all.

              12 NEW Miss 600 - Buying Time

              ALBUM STREAM
The Devil Looks Out For His Own, Twist, Dance With You
Jazz duo's repackaged debut (not out physically till late March). The Devil is stunningly daring and sexy, shame they don't have the confidence to do more of the same. It's not quite Caro Emerald but it's a fair stab.

13 NEW Petula Clark - Lost In You

              ALBUM STREAM
Cut Copy Me, Downtown (new version), Never Enough
It's part chillout, part country, part what-where-you-thinking?? Skip the covers of Imagine and Crazy (Barkley not Cline). Nothing as sublime as Cut Copy Me (which was on a French album originally).

All the above albums i recommend. Even the ones below the top ten are two thirds great. Hence the pictorials.

              14 3 Wang Chung - Tazer Up! (3 weeks; peak #3)
15 NEW Army Of The Universe - Mother Ignorance
              ALBUM STREAM
              Lovedead, Dust In The Universe
The previous album by the Italian industrial/ techno band (from 2011). Produced by (now fulltime member) Chris Vrenna. Features a cover of Bjork's Army Of Me that isn't as great as a NIN-associated cover should be (if you downplay the vocal but keep the same track, what's the point?).

              16 4 Cher - Not.com.mercial (3 weeks; peak #4)
She's having record company problems with her new album now! Could we see Not.com.mercial 2?

              17 5 Goat - World Music (4 weeks; peak #1)
18 NEW Mychael Danna - Life Of Pi (OST)
ALBUM STREAM/ YOUTUBE STREAM (with missing tracks)
Leaving India (see second stream), Pi's Lullaby (with Bombay Jayashri)
              Oscar winning no less.

              19 NEW Ultraista - Ultraista
              ALBUM STREAM
Bad Insect, Our Song, Wash It Over
Nigel Godrich and Joey Waronker's OTHER group that doesn't feature an over-rated hyper-active bassist and a babbling squinty singer (Atoms For Peace). Was leaving it to this week to compare albums but AFP don't have Spotify or Deezer streams (i missed the Pitchfork preview). No matter, i don't like the singles or the preview clips. Thom Yorke was once a genius, now he means literally nothing. This album is not perfect but it has some nice vocals by Laura Bettinson and actual melodies.

              20 6 Van She - V (2 weeks; peak #6)
              21 7 Van She - Idea Of Happiness (2 weeks; peak #7)
              22 9 The Joy Formidable - Wolf's Law (4 weeks; peak #2)
              23 8 Van She - Van She (EP/ mini-album) (2 weeks; peak #8)
              24 10 Zombi - Escape Velocity (2 weeks; peak #10)
              25 11 Leddra Chapman - The Crowd and Cocktails (EP/ mini-album) (2 weeks; peak #11)
              26 12 Judee Sill - Judee Sill (3 weeks; peak #7)
27 NEW Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds - Push The Sky Away
              ALBUM STREAM
It is too sedate/ indulgent for me. Loved his gospel-rock period stuff and most of his albums up to Grinderman. Then he lost me.
This has one truly great song - Mermaids. And some others that are more admirable than lovable.

              28 14 Lisa Mitchell - Bless This Mess (11 weeks; peak #1)
29 16 Serafina Steer - The Moths Are Real (4 weeks; peak #4)
              30 13 Above The Earth - Above The Earth (EP/ mini-album) (3 weeks; peak #8)

I was slightly tempted by that, until I saw the price! However, there seems to be a solo album on the way
soon from this artist - having listened to this track and quite liked it, I may well buy that (or search for a single)

I saw more detail on this track in your update of a few weeks ago (probably when it was number one) and wondered if the group "Play" of which she was a member recorded "Up Against The World", which I have at 3,977 in my all-time chart. I feared that it
might not be the easiest group name to google - but finally doing so just now led to a Wikipedia page that seems to confirm that
she was. However, it implies that the success of that single was limited to Sweden and the US - and I know it spent eight weeks in the German chart too ( 79 70 58 55 60 64 67 95 ) as that's where I discovered it!

And that's almost the only other hit in your current chart that I know! A top five peak for it in mine is not out of the question - as
the group have had three already in less than a year. But it might take some time . . . . .

Well, I'm here for the Stereophonics

I'm also tempted to buy the Bastille album, but would have expected you to chart that one higher. I used to like Dido but I doubt I would risk buying one of her albums these days. Always some weak tracks amongst some epic ballads.

Well i haven't risked buying her! I've been streaming. And to say albums two and 3 are weak is an understatement. New album IS worth buying - but it's only half great. The number of tracks make it purchase worthy. Album chart comes in the next post but now...

Wait a minute! Haven't posted album chart yet! Working on it now. Will be up by 1AM latest.

First of their albums i've heard in full and quite a moody, gritty thing, regardless of Indian Summer which seems to have been made purely to court radio.

                                    5 3 Autre Ne Veut - Anxiety (2 weeks; peak #3)
                                    6 NEW KMFDM - UAIOE

From 1988 is the industrial/ electronica band's best album. With production by Adrian Sherwood it's a dub-flecked sound unlike most of their other albums. The highest of 20(!) albums by the act this week.

                                    7 NEW KMFDM - Nihil

This is her second best album! A promo sent out to record companies by her management company, some of the songs ended up released (Take My Hand being the most known), some still haven't. Given the quality of them, this is bizarre. Give Me Strength is from the same pool of fiery power-pop as Here With Me and Hunter. The only released version is to be found on another album on this chart.
I don't think that photo is an official cover - probably fan-made when the set became downloadable (illegally). The actual cover is found on the stream link.

14 NEW Dido - Girl Who Got Away

                                    ALBUM STREAM
As i was saying, the last two albums were quite dull - see where they chart by scrolling. So it was a relief to hear some sublime chillout and pop on here, like No Angel is back! Sadly, 8 good tracks out of 18 (on deluxe) isn't good enough to rank the album as high as it ought to be given how often i've been playing certain tracks. If it was a 10 track album with those 8 songs on i'd have it at #2.
To go from her worst single ever No Freedom to the blissful End Of Night (a Greg Kurstin pop nugget) and chillout delights Go Dreaming and the title track is just nuts. Drop the James Blunt crap. :x

15 NEW Skold vs KMFDM - Skold vs KMFDM

22 NEW MDFMK (KMFDM) - MDFMK
YOUTUBE SONG (most of the others are on there, too - so search!)
When the band split in 99 two members did this side project with a female vocalist. Bit poppier than before (think Garbage). It went so well, they carried on under the usual name (and expanded).

                                    23 NEW KMFDM - Tohuvabohu
                                    ALBUM STREAM

                                    ALBUM STREAM
Catching up on Dido naturally led to catching up on this oufit! I'd bought several singles but never took the risk of an album. This is their best - most consistent and most upbeat.

25 NEW KGC - Dirty Bomb
                                    ALBUM STREAM
This is the male/ female current core of KMFDM (Sacha Konietsko and Lucia Cifarelli) collaborating with Dean Garcia (Curve, SPC ECO).
As you may expect, it resembles Garcia's past and current groups.

26 NEW Olafur Arnalds - For Now I Am Winter
ALBUM STREAM/ BONUS TRACK No Other
Icelandic composer/ instrumentalist currently heard soundtracking excellent ITV crime drama Broadchurch. This similar sounding album was released to coincide. Great melancholic mood.

27 NEW Faithless - No Roots
                                    ALBUM STREAM
                                    28 NEW KMFDM - (Symbols)
                                    ALBUM STREAM
The title is actually five unpronounceable comic book style graphics - the kind they use to cover expletives. Symbols is the name used for categorisation purposes.

                                    29 9 Tegan and Sara - Heartthrob (4 weeks; peak #2)
                                    30 NEW KMFDM - WTF?!

                                    Quite!!

                                    31 10 My Bloody Valentine - MBV (2 weeks; peak #10)
32 NEW Jimi Hendrix - People, Hell and Angels
                                    ALBUM STREAM
Cuts from 68/69 aired for the first time. All good apart from a couple of tracks that can't realistically be termed Hendrix solo tracks.

                                    33 NEW KMFDM - Blitz

34 NEW Parralox - State Of Decay

                                    First album with Amii.

                                    35 7 Hillsong United - Zion (2 weeks; peak #7)
                                    36 NEW Parralox - Metropolis
                                    ALBUM STREAM
Now reissued to include the Hammond mix edit of Sharper not found on the single.

37 NEW Bastille - Bad Blood
                                    ALBUM STREAM
Talk about over-rated. The title track is still by far their best. There is a lack of melody, a lack of power, a lack of soul. Invoking Twin Peaks doesn't help him either. David Lynch would laugh in his face. It's also about as "alternative" as Frankie Cocozza's hairstyle.

38 NEW Claudia Brucken - The Lost Are Found
                                    ALBUM STREAM
Covers album - songs by Dubstar, Pet Shop Boys, Bowie, Bee Gees, ELO, Julee Cruise (TP again! and about as pointless). It's pleasant, not essential. The fact that Stephen Hague is producing songs he already did (a third here) basically makes you search for the originals.

                                    39 8 Various Artists - A Concert For Kirsty MacColl (2 weeks; peak #8)
                                    40 NEW KMFDM - Adios

                                    41 17 Goat - World Music (5 weeks; peak #1)
                                    42 NEW Faithless - Reverence
                                    ALBUM STREAM
As i thought, the unsurpassed Salva Mea and Insomnia surrounded by hippy sh*t. More of Maxi's sleazy funk and less Catto strumming and crooning would have been better.

                                    43 14 Wang Chung - Tazer Up! (4 weeks; peak #3)
                                    44 12 Miss 600 - Buying Time (2 weeks; peak #12)

                                    46 NEW Faithless - Sunday 8PM

47 NEW Over The Rhine - Films For Radio
                                    ALBUM STREAM
Americana/ alternative group and 2001 album. I listened because it features the only official release of that aforementioned Dido song Give Me Strength. Produced by the same guy who co-wrote/ produced the Dido version - Pascal Gabriel.

                                    ALBUM STREAM
This is basically female grunge/ riot grrrl music - completely irrelevant in 2013. Honestly, if you like this, go check Veruca Salt, Belly, or - if you stomach it - early Hole. It's not totally without merit, it's quite charming and full of character. But it's just... whaaah?

59 NEW KMFDM - Hau Ruck
DO YOU REALLY WANT A STREAM AT THIS POINT??? IT BROKE, I CAN'T!!

62 NEW Dido - Life For Rent
I really didn't expect it to be SO vanilla. Three fantastic chill songs and a whole load of gash.

                                    63 26 Judee Sill - Judee Sill (4 weeks; peak #7)
64 NEW Dido - Safe Trip Home
And this one has that song i charted and the epic chill track Northern Skies.
Rather than stream both albums, here's the playlist i made of all three (plus the soundtrack cuts she did) with the GWGA stormers listed first. PLAYLIST STREAM

Wooo someone has came back to the roots of Dido! I am so glad you've dug some Faithless finest albums... actually their 1st album got only 2 good songs.... To All Arrivals is far better and Dido is still there

Strange you've not put Grafton Street inside your list as I thought you like those kind of songs.

Enough Dido as I've just overplayed her last album (1500 plays on lastfm.)

I didn't like the recent Faithless sets - all style, no substance. The one you mentioned was all about kids (Rollo and Bliss had just had children) and was too twee and trite. And that massacre of The Cure's Lullaby. At least Reverence had a bit of earthiness even if it was hippy babblings.

Good to see Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds charting.

Your remarks about why Dido charted lower with more songs makes me wonder how you calculate your chart. Interesting, I tend to do mine based on songs I liked best (for example, I look at the 6 songs I liked best and only consider these).

I will have a look at some of the albums I don't know.
