The picturesque Connecticut River will be filled with swimmers on Sunday, June 9, when the IRONMAN 70.3 Western Mass returns to Springfield.

1. Swim, bike and run your way through Springfield.

Sunday, June 9

See impressively trained athletes swim 1.2 miles downstream in the Connecticut River, bike 56 miles on rolling rural roads, then run another 13.1 miles along the river back into downtown Springfield. The IRONMAN 70.3 Western Mass was a hit with competitors and spectators in its inaugural year, and the second iteration promises to be just as fun for all. As you can imagine, it takes several hours to complete a race of this length, so expect the cheering to continue from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

2. Kick off every summer weekend with a free concert.

Fridays starting on May 24, from 7:30-9 p.m.

Locals and visitors will love the Free Music Fridays concert series at MGM Springfield’s Plaza. Running every Friday from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, the concerts feature diverse performers, from U2, John Mellencamp, Billy Joel and Jimmy Buffett cover bands to Massachusetts’ hottest horn band, Brass Attack, and Sensacion Urbana, a vibrant blend of Latin sounds. Beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages will be available during the shows. Before and after the concerts, enjoy the MGM’s diverse food and beverage offerings – including The Chandler Steakhouse, Costa, Wahlburgers, Tap Sports Bar and South End Market.

3. Immerse yourself in arts and crafts over Memorial Day weekend.

May 25-27 in Northhampton
