In a decision that surprises nobody, NBC has kept the One Chicago lineup as normal for fall 2024. That means Chicago PD Season 12 will premiere sometime this fall.

NBC released its fall schedule ahead of its May Upfront presentation next week. This tells us of some of the new shows that are arriving this year, and it gives us a look at what we need to change in our schedule to watch our favorite shows.

In some great news, we’re changing nothing for Wednesday nights. (We’re also changing very little for Thursday nights.) Chicago PD will continue to air on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

When will Chicago PD Season 12 premiere on NBC?

NBC has yet to set the exact premiere dates. This isn’t surprising. We usually don’t get the exact dates until June or July of each year. However, we are looking at mid-September 2024.

While there are potential IATSE strikes this summer, it doesn’t look like NBC is all that worried about them. Remember last year that while NBC did set a normal fall, it was clear that we were expecting a change to happen. Some shows like Quantum Leap and The Irrational filmed early while Found was held for an extra year to premiere in the fall.

There don’t seem to be any contingencies by NBC for an IATSE strike. Most other networks don’t seem to be setting contingency plans either. CBS’s fall schedule looks pretty much the same as normal.

How many episodes could Chicago PD Season 12 have?

The big question now is episode count. NBC hasn’t confirmed the episode count for Chicago PD Season 12. While Season 11 ended up only being 13 episodes due to the strike, it was going to drop from 22 to 18-to-20 episodes initially. This was going to be a cost-saving measure, as fewer episodes means a lower cost overall for the series.

It’s not clear if NBC is still looking to do this. Due to the cut to 13 episodes, it’s possible that NBC saved enough money to roll into the budget for this year.

What’s also not clear is if we’ll lose characters for episodes here and there. We do know that Upton is leaving, but she’s sure to be replaced. NBC shared that characters would be missing from episodes now and then as a way to save money since the actors don’t need to be paid for the episodes they don’t appear in. This even included an episode where Voight wasn’t around! We could see something like this happen again, especially if we have a full 22-episode season.
