Hello I’ve been wondering are gbodies from the late 70s and 80s actually bullet proof

My question is for example a 78 chevy Monte Carlo doors thick enough to repel bullets like 9mm ? It does feel heavy and like it could repel some but has anyone tried ? When I bought my Monte Carlo I did find a bullet hole on a weak point but would it actually shield against bullets. I would feel so much better knowing that thanks 😂( sorry if this is a dumb question)

Lol. DO NOT ATTEMPT. the door skins are not bullet proof

Straight up no. I've put a screwdriver through a non rusty Malibu door in body shop class

They are not bullet proof just heavy. You can put kevlar in the door panels tho

Targets for shooting are at least 1/4 inch thick and that’s barely good for .22lr at a close distance. You won’t be able to duck under the glass and still drive out of a tense situation. My ‘78 Monte doors were taken apart to repair rust and they are heavy as hell but not nearly thick enough to put my life on the line.

Well I’m talking more hypothetically it could bounce or not penetrate a few shots if not shot from too close or hitting a area with more reinforcement steal

I guess it depends on how much Bondo is in the door.

So inside the door are crash bars also known as door bars. It’s a really thick rectangular tubing that is welded into the door. They are heavy. I believe when I removed mine they were about 19lbs each. Btw this is on a 79 Monte Carlo but all g bodies had them.
It was a safety/crash feature. It was to help with side collisions.

In theory and my opinion, Yes that small section would stop a 9mm. Would I call it bullet proof. No. Not at all.

All modern cars have intrusion beams in the doors too (at least, nearly all of them. There may be some weird exception)

Trust they don’t make them like they used to do
