Houston high school regional quarterfinal round softball playoff recaps and scores from Friday's games.

Class 6A

Region II
Klein Oak 5, Bridgeland 3
Series tied 1-1

After getting blanked by Bridgeland in Game 1 Thursday night, Klein Oak evened the score Friday to extend the series to a Game 3 at 5 p.m. Saturday from Tomball High School.

Missouri recruit Sophie Smith was 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs for the Panthers (25-10).

Katelyn Havemann was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Brielle Moreland and Makenzie Berkman both doubled.

Riannah Boulanger was steady in the circle with a complete game six-hitter. She struck out six, walked five and gave up three earned runs.

For Bridgeland (32-5), which came in on a 19-game winning streak, Sydney Jackson doubled while Rylie Marquart, Dani Lopez and Addy Gibbons all had RBIs.

Region III
Heights 1, Memorial 0
Heights advances to regional semifinals

A first-inning RBI single by Flora Moreno and a solid pitching performance in the circle by Sara Paniagua lifted Heights to its first regional semifinal trip in program history as it topped No. 4-ranked Memorial for the series sweep Friday night on the Mustangs’ home field.

Paniagua struck out seven and allowed five hits in the complete-game shutout for the Bulldogs (27-9).

Heights had five players each contribute a single.

Memorial (31-4), playing in its first regional quarterfinals, also had five different players with singles.

Addie Young put up a valiant effort in the circle with five strikeouts and two walks over seven innings.

Heights will face Kingwood next week.

Kingwood 7, Alvin 1
Kingwood advances to regional semifinal

It was another well-played game for the Mustangs as they combined solid pitching and offense to down No. 9 Alvin on Friday evening for a regional quarterfinal series sweep.

Mia Gagliardi homered and drove in two runs while Leilani Garcia was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for Kingwood (32-7).

Lyndsey Gilman pitched a complete game four-hitter with three strikeouts, one walk and one earned run allowed.

Angelina Rector tripled in a run for the Yellowjackets (29-5).

Kingwood, regional semifinal-bound for the first time since 2018, will face Heights next week.

Class 5A

Region II
Melissa 3, Kingwood Park 2
Melissa advances to the regional semifinals

No. 5 Melissa pounced on Kingwood Park in the opening inning Friday evening and hung on to advance to the regional semifinals.

Kingwood (24-13) scored twice in the bottom of the third on a two-run single by Courtney Petrosino.

Chloe Wilson pitched 6 ⅔ innings of scoreless relief for the Panthers. She allowed five hits and struck out one.

Melissa will face Frisco Reedy or Frisco Wakeland next week.

Region III
Lake Creek 10, A&M Consolidated 2
Lake Creek advances to regional semifinals

Lake Creek met District 21-5A foe A&M Consolidated and turned them away Friday night at Navasota High School to advance to the regional semifinals for the fourth straight year.

The Lions (32-6) and Tigers played three innings Thursday night before rain postponed the rest.

Madalyn Davis homered for Lake Creek while Chesney Davis was 2-for-4 with a game-high three RBIs. She doubled twice.

Sara Wiggins was strong in the circle with 10 strikeouts in a complete-game effort. A&M had just five hits and both runs were earned.

The Lions will face Foster/Friendswood next week.

Class 4A

Region IV
Needville 3, Columbia 0
Needville advances to regional semifinals

Maddie Smith was lights out again for the Blue Jays.

After shutting out District 25-4A foe Columbia on Thursday night in Game 1, Smith blanked the Roughnecks again Friday with another complete-game gem with four strikeouts, three hits allowed and a walk. Smith had 12 strikeouts Thursday night.

Needville (30-6-1) scored all three runs in the fifth. Jessalyn Gregory had a two-run triple and Jaycie Croatt followed with an RBI single.

All three runs were unearned against Columbia pitcher Kimber Moraw, who allowed six hits and relied on her defense for all 18 outs.

Columbia ends the year 26-10.

Needville advances to the fourth round for the second straight year and will play Bishop or Floresville next week.

Fredericksburg 9, Sealy 3
Sealy 4, Fredericksburg 1
Sealy advances to regional semifinals

Fredericksburg pushed the regional quarterfinal series to a third game, but Sealy settled in from there to advance to the regional semifinals.

The Tigers (28-11) led 3-1 after the first inning in Game 3 and rode the arm of Charlee Ramos from there. Ramos struck out seven, allowed seven hits and one earned run. 

Jade Barton, who was 2-for-4, had an RBI in the first inning and Avery Grigar added an insurance run via a solo homer in the sixth inning.

In the opener, Barton homered for the Tigers.

Sealy will face Devine or Calallen next week.

Class 3A

Region III
East Bernard 7, Orangefield 0
East Bernard advances to regional semifinals

East Bernard totaled four hits and took advantage of six Orangefield errors to take Game 2 and the regional quarterfinals series sweep Friday evening.

Addison Opela led the Brahmas (28-8) with three RBIs.

In the circle, Rylie Holder tossed a three-hitter with four strikeouts and one walk allowed for the complete-game shutout.

East Bernard reached the fourth round for the fourth straight year and will face old nemesis Franklin, the team that’s eliminated it the past two years, next week.
