Chromecast speaker group - No audio

Hello,

I have a Wiim Amp which I have connected to my google home. It is hardwired to the speakers and I can get sound from it by casting from my phone.

However, when I try to use my TV I am out of luck. The TV has a chromecast dongle. I added the chromecast dongle and the wiim to a "speaker group" in my google home app and try to play - but I have no audio.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

edit: I can successfully cast audio from the chromecast dongle to bluetooth speakers. However, I purchased the wiim to cast over wifi because the Amp location is out of bluetooth range.

What are you playing to the tv CC, which is presumably a video CC dongle?

Err... I'm not casting to it. I'm basically using it as a TV by plugging it into my projector. I mostly turn on the CC and watch movies on YouTube.

"when I try to use my TV" and "The TV has a chromecast dongle" lead me to believe you had a tv with a video CC plugged into it

Not casting? How do you play the video?

Not able to try this myself right now, and maybe I can't replicate what you have 'cos my CCs that are plugged into my tvs need me to cast to them, from netflix, spotify or similar.
I'd also think that the term 'speaker group' was intended to mean just for music, not video.
tbh, I've not tried adding a video CC and a music CC (such as a cc audio or wiim) to the same group to see if they all play the same music if I, for example, cast spotify to one of them.

Previously I would play a movie on CC and connect to speakers via Bluetooth. This is a hassle because the amp is down a hall and Bluetooth reception is poor.

So what I want to do is play a movie on CC and basically use the wifi amp + speakers as my "soundbar". I don't think CC can connect directly to Wi-Fi speakers, that's where I thought the speaker group would work.

I may be wrong, but CC on the WiiM can only input audio, so if you cast video and audio together to a group, I don't think it will play.

I agree to @Wiimer. The way this setup is meant to be working is by physically connecting your TV (no matter what the actual input is) to your WiiM Amp. This can be either through HDMI ARC (if supported by the TV, which is very likely, if you chose the right HDMI output on the TV [yes, it's an audio output in this case, not an input]) or optical.

The WiiM Amp as a Chromecast client can receive an audio stream. The Google Chromecast dongle (which version?) can receive a video and audio stream. A Chromecast group is meant to distribute the same (audio) stream to different Chromecast enabled devices. But there is no way to stream audio and video portions of the same stream to different Chromecast devices.

Thanks for all the replies. My experimenting agrees with your comments - and sadly Chromecast cannot send audio output over WiFi. If Chromecast could send Wi-Fi audio then Wiim would be treated as a "speaker" and it would work. Oh well!
