Former Australian captains Aaron Finch and Michael Clarke have shared their views regarding the future of veteran opener David Warner in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Both Finch and Clarke think that Warner will be picked up in the upcoming IPL mega auction.
David Warner has struggled to make an impact for Delhi Capitals in the ongoing tournament. The left-handed batter managed to score only 168 runs in eight matches, with an average of 21 and a strike rate of 134.40. In his last five innings.
The Delhi Capitals indeed face a challenging situation in the T20 tournament, with their chances of advancing to the next stage significantly reduced. While having a conversation with ESPNCricinfo, Aaron Finch said,”With a big auction coming up later in the year, I suspect that there’d be a team out there that would love to have his experience there, whether it’s in their plans for the first eleven or whether it’s just as a replacement and somebody to help nurture the younger players in the group. So I wouldn’t say it’s his last IPL game, but he had a poor year.”
Michael Clarke also gave his opinion on the future of Australia opener and said,”I think he’ll get picked up at the auction. He just mightn’t get the money that he’s used to. I think that is probably going to be the difference. He’s at that stage of his career as well. When you’re not performing at your absolute best, you probably can’t expect the same money. So I’m sure he’ll put himself back in the auction, and I’d be very surprised if he’s not picked up.”
