Rylan Clark admitted to his pal Rob Rinder that he 'tried to end it all' amid his marriage breakdown as the pair emotionally opened up about their divorces.

The presenter and singer, 35, stars alongside Rob, 45, in their new travel show Rob and Rylan's Grand Tour which airs on BBC Two.

One scene shows they having a sunny drink in Venice as they discuss the ends of their relationships - with Rob breaking down over Rylan's heartbreaking story.

It comes as it was revealed that the pair are in fact not dating - after sparking romance rumours last week by saying their 'friendship is growing into love'.

At Sunday night's TV Baftas, Rob - best known as formidable Judge Rinder on his ITV reality courtroom show - admitted he has developed a deep bond with Rylan, describing him as the 'real deal' but insisted they are not in a romantic relationship.

'We aren't a couple. It is what Rylan said, we are like a very old married couple, we row, laugh together and don't have sex', he said.

But the pair - who forged their friendship after sharing a divorce lawyer - certainly did bond during some scenes on the travel show as they opened up to each other.

The duo's show is a new three-part TV series, which they have both claimed worked its way into being a 'heartbreak holiday'.

Having both endured painful divorces, they were ready to embrace the next chapter in their lives by throwing themselves into experiences outside their comfort zones.

Rylan - whose marriage to husband Dan Neal ended in 2021 after six years - was first to discuss his mental health problems amid the split.

He told Rob: 'I think it was a culmination of my marriage breaking down and actually me stopping for the first time in 10 years.

'Then, all of a sudden, I hit quite a big speed bump instead of carrying on, I just sunk.

'It was the worst experience of my life. I just went on a downward spiral. I tried to end it, I tried to finish myself off.

'I didn't eat, I went down to 9st. I'm 6ft 4 Rob, like I look[ed] horrendous.'

Rob then opened up on his own divorce as he also started to get emotional. He and his ex-husband, barrister Seth Cumming, divorced in 2018

He said: 'I was once so in love when I was in my early twenties, but it wasn't reciprocated. And it never has been.'

Rylan consoled his co-star as they sought comfort in their shared life experiences.

He said: 'Do you know what, Rob? We're here once, we've been through quite a lot of stuff.'

'What's it taught us? Nothing's forever unless its right,' as Rob wiped away his tears.

Rylan then said that he's absolutely determined to move on: 'This trip for me is part of my restart in life.

'I'm 34 and I'm young enough to start again, when it comes down to my personal life.'

He added: 'I've got no limits now, nothing phases me. I'm willing to try anything or anyone.'

On Rob & Rylan’s Grand Tour they retrace the steps of the 18th- and 19th-century English aristocrats who left the confines of British society behind to seek freedom and adventure on the classic upper-class gap year – a Grand Tour of the Continent’s cultural capitals.

In particular, Rob and Rylan follow the most famous Grand Tourist of all, Romantic poet Lord Byron, on the 200th anniversary of his death.

He travelled to Venice in 1816 and then on to Florence and Rome, fleeing a scandalous divorce caused partly because he slept with his half-sister.

It comes after Rob hinted at romance with Rylan just hours earlier on Sunday, while plugging the duo's new BBC Two travel show.

Amid the promo trail, the duo, who forged their friendship after sharing a divorce lawyer, Rylan shared a sweet image with Rob, which the latter went on to share with a cryptic message.

Rob sparked rumours of romance with his response, as he shared the tweet and penned: 'Friendship may and often does, grow into love.' Byron .. See you alongside him 9pm tonight'.

The quote from romantic poet Lord Byron comes of the back of their travel show as they follow a journey of Byron, two centuries after his death.

In the original post, alongside a stunning shot of the duo in a vineyard, Rylan penned: 'Tonight our new show starts at 9pm on BBC Two and IPlayer...

'It was so special. This man has become family to me because of this experience. It really is a show like no other and we're so proud of it. Hope you enjoy x'.

The duo's show is a new three-part TV series, which they have both claimed worked its way into being a 'heartbreak holiday'.

However they have now denied it is nothing romantic between them but instead that they are like a 'old married couple'.
