More Bounce To the Ounce deserves it's own spot at the top.

That sound of the tape loop drums was so innovative it changed music forever and gave us Atomic Dog/Loopzilla.

"Cold Sweat" by James Brown deserves a spot on any listing like that. Funky as hell, and surely pointed the way for all the great tracks that came later.

Good choices in both threads.

Thank you!

So much good old school funk in this thread. If like to nominate a little new school to the mix:

Them Changes - Thundercat

To me it felt so old school I would have swore it was.

Handa Wanda - the wild magnolias

One of the first tunes on my funk odyssey...Cheek to Cheek by the Kay Gees!

James Brown - SOUL POWER

The bassline that launched a thousand rockets

Herbie Hancock - Watermelon Man

Cosmic Slop - Parliament Funkadelic

A couple personal favorites are Holy Ghost by The Bar Kay’s, Stomp! by The Brothers Johnson, Slippin’ Into Darkness by War and Poppa Was a Rolling Stone by The Temptations which my opinion has one of the greatest continuous bass lines throughout any funk/soul song ever.
