drivers and caltrans. she joins us live near the freeway. how's it looking, christie? well, jerry, caltrans says that when the lanes reopen, drivers will experience a smooth ride. and the drivers we spoke with today say they actually agree that the lanes could use some work, but they're having to make some short term adjustments. we just try to avoid, you know, if there's closures. many drivers in the east bay are trying to steer clear of roadwork on southbound 680 this weekend. as you are just stuck in the traffic and nobody wants to spend the weekend sitting in the traffic. caltrans has closed a stretch of three southbound lanes as part of its ongoing repavement work. this is happening on southbound 680 from al costa boulevard in san ramon to the five 8680 interchange in pleasanton. a different stretch of road than crews worked on during the previous closures. the purpose of the partial closure is to remove deteriorated pavement and

was saying to terry earlier, rob, it was very warm. it was, you know, the marine air is spilling into walnut creek, but it kind of stops as it gets into solano county and out towards sacramento. but that ocean air conditioning will kick into overdrive tomorrow. we'll have to watch wind gust speeds, i think out near the coast as we move forward into sunday afternoon. right now, not too bad. san jose 72 degrees. pretty close to where we were 24 hours ago. but here's where things are changing. look at walnut creek, just 66 degrees. average highs up at 78. so trending cooler. and the wind is the big factor out of the southwest at 17. that marine air spilling now into contra costa county. look at the low clouds over oakland 63 currently and a chilly 57 degrees in san francisco for anyone out of town trying to get ready for bay to breakers, consider this getting acclimated to the weather. the winds are picking up 57 degrees. some drizzle likely as we head towards tomorrow morning and now starting to see the cooling into fairfield and the wind speeds have really picked up. you see 50s and 60s around the inner bay and the wind up at 20mph there
5:15 pm
in napa, 24 in fairfield. so you got that strong wind coupled with the coolant to the ocean air conditioning that would be the low clouds. things are trending cooler right now. now we do have some active weather. if you have sierra travel plans over the next couple of hours, we're going to head off to the east. we have plans around yosemite tomorrow. most of the thunderstorms in the weekend forecast are associated with today, as we take a look at the future cast after sunset, those showers start to ramp down. a little bit of activity there in the sacramento valley late evening, and then as we move forward to tomorrow morning, watch how those high clouds pass by that should allow for a little bit of coastal clearing for areas north of san francisco during the day tomorrow. so the morning begins with more of those low clouds, but then we should see those west northwest winds get a little more sunshine on the coast. but for inland areas that onshore wind is going to keep temperatures fairly cool. so we start off the day in the 50s around the bay area. some spotty drizzle around the south coast and around san jose. by noon numbers mostly in the 60s and low 70s. and then the
5:16 pm
wind picks up, and i really think you're going to notice it around san francisco, heading up the marin coastline towards bodega bay. notice our inland temperatures in the 70s. now more on those wind speeds hour by hour. watch bodega bay as we get into sunday afternoon. right there, 36mph. you see the red on the coast there. wind gusts 30 to 40mph. some of that gets down towards the peninsula and san francisco later tomorrow afternoon into the evening. and if winds that strong onshore, you can see why the weekend will finish. on a somewhat cool note. now, if you like 80s inland monday and tuesday a little less of the sea breeze. look at concord now back into the mid 80s upper 80s out towards fairfield. then we trend a little bit cooler on wednesday as we start to watch the memorial day weekend forecast. right now, looks like it's going to trend a little bit cooler weather systems passing by to the north as we head through the middle part of the week, and then one more system here on approach as we head towards
5:17 pm
sunday. so bottom line, more clouds, more cooling next weekend. stay tuned. at 6:00 we'll take a closer look to see if that might involve any shower chances late next holiday weekend. but where this weekend is concerned, we're watching the wind. san francisco trending a little gusty as we head towards the evening and valley locations. we'll see temperatures rebound again as we approach the middle part of the week, and trending cooler as we get towards next weekend. overall, pretty nice, but a little blustery for our friends to bay to breakers tomorrow. looks a little chilly to start with the wind picking up well, they'll be covered in costume right? hopefully. hopefully they'll be covered. yeah. all right, all right rob, thanks. still ahead, a worldwide travel warning ahead of the summer travel season. the events and people identified as potential targets for terrorism. moving the bay area forward, it's about helping people. se trata de ayudar a la gente. digging deeper to expose the truth. it's about challenging power and finding solutions because

understand, but, you know, i already mentioned in my car, refusing to accommodate service dogs is a violation of the americans with disabilities act, which prohibits discrimination based on disability. according to both lyft and uber, allergies, religious objections and a fear of dogs are not valid reasons for their drivers to refuse. a rider with a service animal on a human level, what does it feel like? like i'm less than i'm not wanted in society. de leonardo is not alone. linda mcleod from willow glen has been denied as well. as i was reaching for the handle for the door, he got out and said, oh no, no, no, no pets, no dogs. he mentioned that, uber has this this program called uber pet. in 2021, uber introduced uber pet, an option that allows riders to bring along furry friends for an extra $5. but mcleod says the program has made the problem

worse for blind people, service animals, she says, are not pets. drivers think it's an option, an he's the same as a wheelchair. mcleod says it's illegal to make blind people pay more money to ride with their service animals, so that means it's not being provided to me at the same level as the service for other people who don't have a disability. the investigative unit reached out to uber and lyft with these concerns. uber said discrimination on our platform is unacceptable and it takes appropriate action, which can include deactivation of a driver's account. lyft told us it requires all drivers to accommodate passengers traveling with service animals and it asked riders to report issues immediately and then i usually get a $5 gift card. and so sometimes i've just stopped reporting. seven years ago, both lyft and uber settled lawsuits brought by the national federation of the blind. as a result, uber said it reminds drivers of their contractual and

legal obligations to transport riders with service animals. but de leonardo says these actions are still clearly not enough against lyft's policy to refuse him. lyft. you can't say no because he's a helper dog. okay, i'm going to report to you. i think they're not making it a big enough issue. i think they're they're trying to be nice to their drivers and give them a second chance. i'm the same as you, and i deserve the same rights. and i just want to get to work with the investigative unit. candice nguyen, nbc, bay area news. now, if you have a story for our investigative unit, call this number 888996 tips or visit our website nbcbayarea.com. slash investigations. a vending machine in san mateo county is now carrying a drug that could save a life. you probably heard of narcan. that's a drug that can reverse the impacts of

internet, there was no video conferencing. so you you just really didn't get to meet other game makers today there are thousands of artists and animators, writers and musicians . but back in the 80s, it was different. back when i started the industry and when game developer conference started, everybody had to be a programmer for the most part, and on consoles running at one megahertz with just a few k of memory, those programmers made magic. the machine could never do what i wanted it to do, and it was always trying to figure out a way to cheat, figure out something that you could do that would make it look like it was doing something it really wasn't doing. from that digital sorcery came classics like pac-man, centipede, and super mario bros. but also countless other games, games you might not be able to find anywhere. we found that many games have been lost from even 15 years ago. it's why a conference about the game industry's future is now also focused on preserving its past. you know, preserving these games are important because it's an art form. meet wade rosen, the 36 year old ceo of a company. you might have heard of atari. i always joke we're a 50 year old startup. when he took over in 2021, he made a bold decision to
