Little Richard

Self-promoted Architect of Rock 'n' Roll and who would dispute that? I saw him twice and his live performances were electric. His UK TV show showed him in his prime (see "It's Little Richard!" on YouTube) and well worth a watch. His shownanship often reduced the songs to all the hits, but his voice was blessed with a wide range and he could have used it on much broader material. When he did, he could produce songs like "I don't know what you got (but it's got me)".

My favourite is "Send me some loving", sung with real conviction, but anything he did with his music was always good enough for me.

I was lucky to develop an online friendship with the drummer who starred in his road band, The Upsetters, the late Charles Connor who also was in the best rock film of the '50s "The girl can't help it".
