The French post office launched a stamp on Friday, celebrating none other than the baguette, and promising to have a “bakery smell”.

A baguette adorned with a red, white and blue bow illustrates the stamp, which will have a circulation of 594,000 copies and will be sold for 1.96 euros.

The stamp went on sale this Friday, after its launch on Thursday, the day of Saint-Honoré, the patron saint of bakers and pastry chefs.

The ink used in the stamps contains microcapsules that give it the promised “bakery smell”, as stated by the establishment Le Carre d'encre.

“A bearer of culture and customs, the baguette is deeply rooted in the daily practices of the French. It embodies a ritual, that of going to the bakery, a local business anchored in the region, which attracts 12 million consumers every day. The production of six billion baguettes per year confirms its iconic status in the French food heritage”, added the entity.

The post office also noted that “the baguette transcends borders to become an international icon”, so that “the inclusion of these artisanal skills and its culture in UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage attests to its influence and establishes it as an ambassador for the craft of baking”.

It should be recalled that the baguette was recognised by UNESCO in 2022.
