A student is facing charges after a gun, knife and marijuana were found at Highland Middle School, school officials say. Highland Principal Vanessa Green sent an email to families on Thursday following the incident.Green said that security staff found a knife and a small amount of marijuana in a student's locker during a search. When questioning the student, a gun fell down the student's pant leg onto the floor. Green said the school immediately called police, who confiscated the gun.She said the security level in the building was then increased and there was a sweep of the school by the JCPS Police canine unit. The canine unit did not discover any other weapons and school operations resumed. The gun was never displayed in a threatening manner, Green said. The student is facing charges from JCPS Police and will be disciplined according to the student handbook.
