RIP David Sanborn

A fine player. He gave the alto a new voice in Rock. I have listened to David Sanborn the last week. Playing Bruce Springsteen's "Teenth Avenue Freeze Out". David Sanborm was/is on the baritone on the studio recording. RIP.

Saw him numerous time and actually got to meet him a few times , great player , a nice guy who always found time to chat to fans , last times I saw him was 2 years ago at ronnie Scott’s and then in Stuttgart , he did look frail then and needed his wife Alice to help him on and off stage , but he still had that sound , if I could play one lick as good as he did I’d be a very happy man

RIP David you brought so much pleasure to so many , your legacy will live on

That's so sad. So many memories.
He has always been present during my saxophone studies at the conservatory, when I listened to the "Straight to the heart" album on the DAT-Recorder I was so proud of.
Then the solos on all the Michael Franks albums, Nena, loved the stuff with Al Jarreau.
So, with a tear in my eye I say thanks, but I want to close with something that puts a smile on my face.
To see the greats having a good time with pure nonsense:

Devastating news...my two main inspirations in life to play the saxophone and especially the alto was my late grandfather, and David Sanborn...and David Sanborn's tonal concept was so different to anyone else, from Paul Butterfield Blues Band he set a standard every alto player over the last 50 odd years tried to copy...one of my favourite tunes ( and I have a lot of albums) is this

I’ve always loved this tune. First saw David on this tour and couldn’t believe his sound live, and his palette.
Incredible voice. His placement always amazed me too, his sense of time. And his crafting of a solo.
