all of my nominees have been reported. slightly disappointed to have two holdovers that both would have made it with one extra vote (even a vote of zero), but they might be appealing enough to a wider audience that they'll make it next year. if anyone participating in the westerns challenge on the forum wants to watch a dtc holdover to vote next year, you could try Star in the Dust. i was also happy to see the high overall rating for the two 1930s comedies i nominated, even though neither had nearly enough votes to qualify. and i'm not sure i'll nominate experimental shorts again -- they don't seem to fare too well, or maybe i'm just bad at picking them.

Finished on a high note there, with Un monde getting in and The Living Corpse entering holdover status, a single vote away. Of course the film in my top 100, Wittgenstein, dud not have a prayer. Plenty of great films made the cut though.

Especially happy Victoria got in, that's possibly the best single-take film ever made. Zazidani making holdover is also great to see, though I had hoped we might have garnered enough attention around ut the kast couple if years to get it the views. Meanwhile, there are a ton of films I'm stunned got the number if votes they did. The Robbe-Grillet mafia really did our job.

No entries from my nominations this year, but two holdovers. Two other movies got fewer votes then I had hoped, all others were seen by more than enough voters. But not even Zert and Rengoku Eroica could pull it off with the current pool. Still some interesting results, and quite a few I already had on my radar finally entering Doubling. Haven't got time for full analysis tonight on the recent posts, but from what I looked at earlier these are examples of the movies entering that I'm looking forward to the most:

Wow. That is an insanely low score for The Man Who Haunted Himself - a film with four glowing/positive reports on the DTC Nominees Challenge thread and only one negative report. This is also possibly my favourite of my nominees this year, so that absolutely sucks, but at least I know in advance not to manage England in the next World Cup.

I don't know what to make of the lack of love for Dearden in DtC voting - he's one of my favourite British directors of the 1950s/1960s. I had a disappointing surprise a few years ago with The League of Gentlemen (1960) and have also been disappointed by the results for Sapphire (1959) - perhaps my favourite of his films - when nominated by others. As a result, I haven't bothered with Woman of Straw (1964), an obscure entry in his catalogue I've also really enjoyed. I haven't seen The Man Who Haunted Himself, but would have prioritized it with my Mystery/Thriller focus last month had it been available to me.

I've been wanting to watch Get Back for a while, but sadly didn't have time for it in April. Hopefully during Documentary December. In general, this wasn't a great year for miniseries (sadly).

Beyond my own nominees, there's several positive results I'm especially happy to see: returning films Panique (Julien Duvivier, 1946), The Civil War (Ken Burns, 1990), Dial M for Murder (Alfred Hitchcock, 1954), and new entries The Night Of (HBO/Steven Zaillian, 2016), Billy Budd (Peter Ustinov, 1962), Ahlat Agaci - The Wild Pear Tree (Nuri Bilge Ceylan, 2018), Holy Spider (Ali Abbasi, 2022), Ice Cold in Alex (J. Lee Thompson, 1958), Judgment at Nuremberg (Stanley Kramer, 1961) and Victoria (Sebastian Schipper, 2015). I've certainly supported The Wild Pear Tree and Victoria in past years, nice to see quality recent films like them joining the list. Ice Cold in Alex was the best film I saw during the nominations phase, and also the best noir I've seen in some time.

Under the Blossoming Cherry Trees is my third and last induction of this year.

Small Roads making the list again is indeed wonderous

The Shiranui Sea did not recieve many voters. It is a deeply compelling and multifaceted environmental documentary, the sequel to Minamata which is on 5 official lists, that also contains some awesome lyrical cinematography.

Thanks for hosting Angel. It is always a highlight for me, being prompted to watch some films I probably would not have otherwise.

Pretty good year for my ex-nominees, I nominated this one three times, last in 2021, where it fell at 3.51/37. It's my #16 film of all time.

Essentially whilst I've been sore that a lot of the arthouse stuff has been junked, a lot of my all times have come into DtC.

it seems that the results are very bumpy depending on which subset of forum members make it to the ballot box each year.

It'll be interesting to see what you can get out of Wales, the Welsh guys I know have said to me that Wales is basically not a film country, more it's a singing country.

My own nom of The Last Days of Dolwyn (1949 - Emlyn Williams) got 3.75/4 unweighted if of interest.

Insomnius has called Peter Greenaway films Welsh on the rather thin basis that his parents moved there for a couple of years during the Blitz, and so his mum gave birth to him in Newport.

So we have 40 voters who voted in both 2019 and 2024. We have 39 missing from the class of 2019, although I think many are still active here they just didn't vote. We also have 30 voters for 2024 who didn't vote in 2019.

The most notable 2019 arthouse champion / experimental maven not on the 2024 voter list is Insomnius. Other than that it's not particularly easy for me to see key voter losses for our mafia. All the people I associate with the forum's arthouse / experimental mafia voted in both 2019 and 2024.

If you're referring to the UK poll a few years ago, where I called 'The Falls' Welsh, I think I based that on the filming location referred to on imdb, not that his, nor my, parents were in Wales during the Blitz. I'm no expert on the matter though.

If you're referring to the UK poll a few years ago, where I called 'The Falls' Welsh, I think I based that on the filming location referred to on imdb, not that his, nor my, parents were in Wales during the Blitz. I'm no expert on the matter though.

The Parallel Street is not all I care about. There's a purge of experimental films going on and it was in full swing already last year when I participated to no avail. Sad but true.

I wouldn't say it is to no avail. In many cases you would be 1/8th-1/10th of the equation, which is pretty huge. Experimental films, and quite a few arthouse films, will struggle the more see them, with shorts being under particular risk, but for many films we were just 1-2 arthouse/experimentsl voters away from securing them a spot.
